I have a Model A truck that is a static display. The motor does run and is wired for just the ignition. Now I want to wire the generator also in the simplest way possible. All other wiring such as lights is not needed. I have the original type short generator with a new diode type cut out. I...
I put in a new distributor and gear assy and timed my A but I have noticed on cold days or if battery is a little low as I try to start it will fire and try to kick motor back even if I am at full retard. I know this can damage starter. Would this mean that I am a little to far advanced on my...
Well my little ordeal is over. I never could get the gear assy out so I drilled out pin and removed top piece and of course it came out. I compared it to the new one and I could see little size or difference. Maybe the lower tang to old pump was a little wider but not much. I practiced putting...
After trying everything I am going to take out the pint at top of gear assy and take apart to remove. I was going to use a grinder to take it out but concerned about sparks getting to gas fumes. Any ideas ? Thanks Joe B.
Thanks everyone for trying to help me. No the top tang is below the top flange. I will try and take the top to the inside as someone suggested. I agree it went in there but it might not have went in there in one piece. I am prepared to take the top pin out if I have to and remove top flange...
I see you point when I put bottom tang parallel with the car front to back it does give it the best chance to come out. But still will not come out. I could get aggressive and pull top out but as you see the gear is still in and worried about chipping out the edge of block ?
Ok this is my problem I am at top of lift and slightly tilted out but I still have about half the gear to go. I can get more aggressive but I do Not want to hurt block. Any ideas. Thanks Joe B
Tom I am trying to get the whole assy out together ? I am going up into the distributor hole and then trying to clear the bottom tang out of the crankcase. Does the assy come apart first ?
I have tried to get gear out but no luck. I lift it up into the hole above going to the distributor as far as I can go but the tang at bottom still is in lower block hole about a 1/16". It does not come apart first does it ? Tried prying up more and pulling bottom tang on through but no luck...
What am I doing wrong ? I have pulled the distributor. the lower shaft and side cover but cannot get the drive gear to come out. I can lift it up easily but when I get it as high as I can the tang on the bottom that goes to the oil pump will not come high enough to take out assy ? Thanks Joe B
Okay I have the side cover pulled that was easy. I removed the spring from the cam gear assy but it will not come out completely. The tang at bottom for the oil pump is hanging do I take assy apart ?
