How do you tell the difference between the LONG or SHORT doors for '46-'48 coupe doors?

I got a 48 ford coupe, flathead, 5 speed. The driver outside door handle locked up on me. The inside works fine but the outside will not turn! So i'm trying to remove it. Do I have to remove the door molding to get it out? How is this thing held in place anyway. I know I put it in the door...
