See if you can buy a Marvel carb, is an aftermarket carb for Model A's. Next best would be an SU carb if you can find someone to make a manifold for it.

Yes, most of the diodes used for this purpose have a forward voltage drop. The generator output voltage (before the cutout) will be greater than the cutout output voltage. So, you will have to increase the third brush voltage to get the same charge rate as before.

Forgot to add, got a used spring from a Model T guy for $25. Rebuilt it and put spacers on the shackles.
