I used the welt on wire type and it looks good to me and has held up well. When I restored my top the aluminum mouldings were not available. I tried reusing the original but was never happy with the way it looked. I bought the aluminum mouldings but never installed them for the same reason you...
With the float a motor mounts my engine shifted far enough forward so that the engine pan bolts could not be removed. I went back to the original mounts and can't tell that the vibration is any worse without them. I will stick with the original mounts.
My FAM allowed the motor to shift far enough forward to prevent the removal of the front oil pan screws. I had to go back to the original. I don't feel any difference in the ride. I would not use a FAM if I were you.
I have a new noise that happens only at idle. It sounds like a loud intermittent squeak. It becomes continuous when the clutch is depressed. It hasn't been long since I greased the throughout bearing. The bearing was replaced when the transmission was rebuilt 20 years ago and has very few miles...
I enjoy this sight. Thank you for making it even better. I like your rules. I was in a famous preacher's office in Frisco, TX a while back and he has a big sign behind his desk that says "Be Nice or Get Out". I liked it!
Chromed repops that I have bought in the past did not hold up. Chrome started popping off and rust popped through. I have stainless steel ones 20 years now and they look new.
I live in Laurel, MS, about 25 miles off your route or maybe less if you take a slight detour. I would be glad to meet you and lend a hand if need be. PM me and I will give you my cell number. I could also help with an oil change or whatever at my house.
My switch rod had a raised area right where the lever was formed onto the round center. That was dragging on the steering wheel causing the switch to move when I turned the wheel. I filed the area under the lever until it was flush with the surrounding area and that solved the problem.
