I've heard some folks have found assembly numbers on some of the later T's. I have a 1918, 1922 and a 23. The 1918 and 21 are all original wood and metal, and I haven't found a thing that might be a assembly number. I was looking into this some time ago because Dee Moines Iowa had an assembly...
Hey FlatheadTed. That's a very interesting photo.although it isn't or doesn't appear to be an actual chain drive starting system. You photo appears to be driven through a gearbox and shaft, both to drive the gearbox as well as a replacing the hand crank with a shaft. All three of the chain drive...
I would assume you are getting spark, since the engine eventually starts and runs. When she's running does it run well? If it does run well after you finally get her started, chances are it's a fuel related issue. Possibly the carburetor. As posted earlier, a manual is always a plus. Although...
Mike Bender out of Oklahoma has many video's on YouTube that will help you. He also has his own website. I will try a post the link. He's really good and will walk you through the engine/transmission re-building process pretty much step by step. Please check out his web site. He's a real wealth...
Here is a photo of the dash control for the starter/generator Dad removed from one of his T's years ago. The unit is marked on the dial "Heinz and Springfield". I have not been able to come up with the rest of this unit. With Dad being 86 he has accumulated much. I'll keep you posted.
Yes, that's correct. My Ts start real easy after they are warmed up on mag. Starting cold I usually start them on battery then switch over to mag. If you don't have a battery just pull up close or take one out of your daily driver cars, 12 volt works just fine. The tiny little 6 volt flashlight...
I'll see if he or I can find it. I won't be home for a day or so. I'll try and post a picture of the controls. I'll look around for the rest of it also.
Why mag only. I guess I haven't been following your post. Can't you hook up a battery and run the buzz coils off battery. I do it all the time on "no starter" Ts. They originally had a dry cell battery to start on. I have two Ts, a 1918 and a 1921 that will start on mag only but you need to spin...
I asked my father about the chain drive starter. He says he still has it, somewhere. I found only the wiring and the control panel that went inside the car. He thought it was a Jack and Heitz or something as such. He also stated the gears where good but the chain was wore out.
My Father had one of these "aftermarket" chain drive starter/generators on a late teens touring car. He took it off because the chain and gears where pretty well worm out. I believe he still has it. I know I run across a thick wiring loom with many wires attached to the dash up in his attic a...
The length is right on. I did install them and they appear to be fine. I did use brass rivets I luckily had.I put the rear wheels up on Jack stands and run it awhile, the band's are "seating" in nicely. If it stops raining I will drive the car around for the next couple of days. Then re-adjust...
I'm putting bands in a friend's 1923 model T. It has the removable bands, meaning, in theory you don't have to remove the "hogshead" to replace the band linings. But Ive never liked pulling the band's up and out of the inspection cover. When he brought the car to my place he had two "new old...
If what the others say is not helping, check the pins that hold the gears in place. You will have to take your steering wheel off as well as the gear housing cover though. You can also inspect the gears at the same time, I've found the pins wear out before those gears do.
