    I don't think you need the pillar, just the reinforcement.

    I can't tell if it has been cut off or it is the whole part gone, use the side you do have as a pattern and make the other side.

    do I need a band saw?

    I'm sure you can find a small bench top bandsaw for cheap, in Canada I can buy a new one for about $140 so used in the US probably $50.
