    Generator crud and such

Rather nasty inside. I restore a lot of model A generators many of which look like that or worse. As an example, this is a mid 1930s V8 generator I restored and just finished yesterday. The armature started out looking much like yours. Glad to help if you need it. Steve I'll keep your number...

    Generator crud and such

I put it on the lathe just to speed up the process. Used a fine file followed with scotchbrite. It cleaned up decently but there are some spots that I was not going to chase. Undercutting the mica tomorrow as it was needed before the cleanup. No pics of the commutator, but it cleanup fine with...

    Generator crud and such

I am working on a 31 Tudor that has been off the road for at least 7 years. Someone prior had been working on a backyard restoration and I get to reap those benefits....hardly The generator looked like it may have been replaced during the Reagan administration, it still had a 6 month warranty...

More kudos for Snyder's Antique Auto

I called snyders this week to get an idea of where a piece of wood from a kit was to be installed. Kevin called back, told me where it was supposed to go and gave me a website for photo reference. I'll be calling them tomorrow for the next load of parts needed to get a car back on the road.

    glass experience

If you have a good local shop, use them. You won't have the expense of shipping. I'm working on a car that was being redone by another shop, they ordered glass from a well-known supplier. I had to take the door glass to my glass guy to shave a fat 1/8" because the mail order pieces were cut too...

    31 Fuel Gauge Installation Problem

Thanks to all that replied. A thumbs up to each of you. I did wire wheel the threads as the body shop that was used by the previous person sprayed high build primer and paint onto the threads. On top of that the olg gasket material was still in the hole. Took entirely way too long to fix poor...

    31 Fuel Gauge Installation Problem

After digging deeper into my dilemma and wiping the sweat from my eyes, I've realized it is actually the assembly itself not going into the opening.

    31 Fuel Gauge Installation Problem

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I'll forego the neoprene gasket and get a proper cork gasket. I have made sure the bezel nut does fit, and will be sure the mating surface is free of any old material.

    31 Fuel Gauge Installation Problem

Why am I not able to get the gas gauge reinstalled into it's home? The gauge was removed by someone else a few years ago and I am working on putting things back together. The gauge will not install so that the brass washers and outer ring can be installed. Am I overthinking this?

    Preparing for the end.

I'm very fortunate in that my wife shares my enthusiasm of the old car hobby. I'm upfront with her on what things are valued at, but she's not concerned with that. Most likely she'll sit on stuff for a bit out of nostalgia but will eventually get with one of our many friends to help her value...

    fuel in intake

I've painted/coated the exhaust and intake manifolds as well as installed a rebuilt/reman carb from a reputable supplier. Firing up the car, I realized my manifold gaskets weren't seated properly allowing for a noticeable exhaust leak. When I pulled the gaskets, I could see raw fuel puddled in...

    Champion 3x electrode

Looking at my 1st set of 3x plugs, it appears the side electrode points to the side of the center electrode, not hover over the top as most other plugs do. Am I correct or am I looking at plugs somebody has gotten their mileage out of? Another issue that appears to me is the corrosion on the...
