    How Did Henry Do It?

I just finished a rear axle restoration after several weeks of cleaning, replacing, preloading, fitting, trying, torquing and assembling. [Note - thanks to Tom Endy for the informative and extremely helpful PDF’s on axle rebuilding.] This got me wondering. How did Henry do it? I know that...

    Extended Cab Pickup

I love the look of the Model A pickup, but at 6'4" and 265 lbs. I am more than realistic to know that I just won't fit comfortably. So...just dreaming...has anyone every attempted to make an extended cab pickup by adding sheet metal behind the doors or by piecing in the window section of a coupe?

    Detriot & Dearborn

Actually, Ford was a Delaware Company by 1931. From the Ford Website - "In 1919, Henry Ford bought out all of these investors and reincorporated the company in the State of Delaware." But I wouldn't put that on the sign...

    Detriot & Dearborn

I would say that since the engines, and potentially your car, were produced at the Rouge in 1931, it would be "Dearborn 1931". But the bigger question is where were the Ford corporate offices in 1931? I don't have that information readily available. One of my vague Ford history recollections...

    Detriot & Dearborn

True statement, Brad. I was looking at it from a North American perspective. I believe that engines were also produced in Dagenham [U.K.], but I am not 100% sure. Perhaps one of our U.K. members can comment.

    Detriot & Dearborn

Not sure what the nature of your question is, but a few details about Ford early history [others can fill in as appropriate]. The first Ford Motor Company plant was in a rented building on Mack Ave. in Detroit. This is where the first Model A (1903) was made. The first Ford owned building was...

    In Memory of Spike

I used to visit Denny whenever I was in town from my assignment in China 2011-2014. Denny helped me greatly with my initial work on my Delivery as he had already restored a late '31 delivery. He bought the 30 off of Ebay and I remember asking him if he was really ready to tackle another one as...

    Model A Ford Hearse????

Yes - Querfeld Funeral Home has a Model A hearse. It is often displayed at the Henry Ford Greenfield Village Old Car Festival. The owner loves old Hearses and his consultation room has a wall of scale models of various types and vintages of funeral hearses.

    Another Model-A Workshop planning thoughts....

I am always interested in Metal Working no matter what part of the vehicle is being addressed. Another topic which you did in one of the previous seminars was Axle Rebuilding. By fall, I think that might be a hot topic for me...

2 fords to return to US

The Ford Ranger is currently being produced in Asia and is very successful. All I can say is that "it ain't your daddy's Ranger". It should be received well when made in the U.S. and provide some serious competition to the Chevy and Dodge intermediate trucks.

    Getting a title in michigan

It has been a few years since I did it, but you must have a signed Bill of Sale with a serial/vin number (i.e. engine number) to start. SOS will provide you with a form in which you describe the details of the car including the serial number/vin number. You schedule an appointment with your...

I think Mr. Ford is leaving us...

I have read / studied a lot of material about the start of Ford Motor Company. While I respect both the unwavering vision (an affordable car for the masses that could provide transportation instead of a toy for the rich) and mechanical genius of Henry Ford, I believe that the early success of...

    sound of 2nd gear?

I had the same problem with my 29 when I first got it. I took it apart for a rebuild and found some wear on the gears, but the big problem was roller bearings that fell apart in my hand when I took it out. Several of the rollers were broken with pieces laying in the bottom. I was astounded at...

How do you clean a red steering wheel and where can you buy a quality ammeter?

On black wheels, I have had decent success with hand lotion (good quality stuff). I put it on thickly and then wipe until it doesn't feel greasy. It prevents the black from coming off and is easy to redo if the wheel begins drying out.
