Was the Ford Model A the ideal depression era farm car? Could it be TODAY?

With the Model As getting cheaper and new car prices going through the roof, maybe we'll see a resurgence in people wanting to start using them again. Save the car you mortgaged your house to buy for special occasions. Would the Model A be EMP proof? ---Gotta see the humor in all this.

Was the Ford Model A the ideal depression era farm car? Could it be TODAY?

Cool, thinking about all this stuff now. Unfortunately, I don't think people today are as innovative as they used to be. That's not a slam. Today you can usually buy whatever you need. If you don't have the money, financing is available. Our neighbor who was an electrician converted a coupe...

Was the Ford Model A the ideal depression era farm car? Could it be TODAY?

Maybe because they didn't get high centered on the muddy dirt roads after a rain or get stuck in the snow. I have a set of 19-inch tire chains that I have never used, didn't need them. Some people did use them sometimes with a cross chain coming loose and beating the heck out of the fender.

Still Worried About the Antique Car Hobby Being Dead or Dying??

A few years ago, a guy told me that he was stripping out his A so he could turn it into a hot rod. Wanted to know what I thought the parts were worth. I just told him that he should be shot.

I agree but thought you could handle that criticism better than me. WW2 didn't just spark the baby boom but also many other things such as the GI Bill for college (much better than the one I got after Vietnam) and new homes. Urban neighborhoods sprang up and Eisenhower's Interstate Hiway System...

    Reviving the Hobby

When was the last time anyone called a TV repairman or even now to fix the laptop. Now it's plug and play and throw away. What? fix the car, change the oil, rotate the tires? Model A Ford? What the heck is that? Convenience rules--for me too.

    Reviving the Hobby

As a boomer, I grew up in the 50s and 60s in a rural part of the country where families tended to be quite large. I have no scientific bases to back this up and can only surmise that birth control wasn't as prevalent then as it is now. When the farmers came to town on Saturday with big families...

    Reviving the Hobby

"Reviving" was probably the wrong word. I should have said the hobby could use a tune up. What is there to lose? Also, along with Harbor Freight, there is Craftsman, NAPA, Autozone, O'rielly's and others who don't mind taking our money. Yes, most people are focused on their own tiny worlds...

    Reviving the Hobby

Has any thought been given by MARC and MAFCA to promoting the hobby with a public publicity campaign. Get businesses like Harbor Freight and others to support it.-- Pause to let the Boos quite down.-- OK. All the talk about getting kids interested in trades instead of 4- year college. What...

Still Worried About the Antique Car Hobby Being Dead or Dying??

Kinda like the faithful old mare on the farm. Got replaced by the new John Deere. A few got to live out their lives eating oats and green grass in the meadow. Others went to the mink farms and dog food processors.
