    So Cal Holiday excursion

I was there with my 1930 Huckster last year for the first time. I will return this year but now with a Mitchell ****** and overdrive for the 90-mile freeway drive to the park. Jay Leno was there last year. There were a lot of broken-down cars on the route and a lot of trailer queens. ,

FS Ignition versus Original for touring

When I purchased my A just over two years ago I noticed how fast the points pitted. I tried the new and old style points and was not happy with them. I did not want to continually clean and adjust points as others do on our long tours. I have a pertronlx module as used by FSI in the A and...

Model B carb dying at stops

I was given a bunch of mismatched rusty B carbs. So far I have built 3 that do not stall when braking. I am still stumped as to why some will stall and others not. I worked for days on one carb and it still stalled no matter the adjustments with and without baffle. On this one, I just used...

    Clutch Pressure Plate

I am now 2 years into model As and still learning, but did not use the Shinn method to adjust the pressure plate. Fingers pressures are high. I adjusted while in place on flywheel, put a square tube steel across plate housing and using a hex bolt head as a feeler gauge 5/8" and made adjustments...

    1931 Coupe Tire Tubes

our local Model A "know-it-all mechanic" recommends motorcycle inner tubes. Rubber is thicker and stronger.

Model a oil equivalent to 400w oil gear oil

My research found that the 600w gear oil is equivalent to sae 250. I am using a pricey racing oil that is probably way overkill. Torco RGO gl-6 sae 250

    American Classic Radial Tires

I drive my A pretty hard on the American Classic radials. Lots of hills and twisty roads. Measuring the tread depth of all tires compared to the new spare the fronts have worn down 1/3 after 6K miles, the rears less so time to rotate. My get 15K miles out of these.

    Exhaust Fumes

On my Huskster I routed the exhaust pipe past the axle and exited to the right to reduce fumes entering from the rear. I am currently testing CO in the truck with a home carbon monoxide tester hooked up to 12-volt inverter. So far the numbers recorded are very low surprisingly. I was concerned...

Identify this front main crank seal

In about a month I should be receiving my new Brassworks radiator and at that time will address the front seal replacement. Thoughts about using the modern seal verses the original style. I believe this engine was rebuilt about 20 years ago but not driven much. Thanks for info

Identify this front main crank seal

I recently dropped the oil pan to inspect center babbit, all was good. Oil pan gasket set included a white half circle seal that does not match the seal intalled. What I have is a grey donut full circle I think, that is now leaking. Do I cut and remove. I would guess to replace this full circle...

    New tube shocks

Gas shocks are extended right out of the box, and hydraulic are not. Just replaced my Speedway Motors branded gas shocks that failed just out of warranty, gas type not too firm. Speedway sells Afco brand gas shocks way too firm. Now have Pro Shock nongas/hydraulic part # 582-SM500 chrome $87...

    spark plug recommendation needed

I have been very happy with Champion 589/W89D described as an agricultural equipment plug. Has a very long electrode/insulator, was told Pikes Peak racers use this plug? Buy direct from Champion, not a common plug.

    Is this U-Joint play normal

The joint I have is a Spicer. The play is not the needle bearings, it is the side-to-side movement of 3/32". Difficult for me to explain? Would a rebuild kit remove this play or is it the yoke that has worn?

    Is this U-Joint play normal

I am preparing to install a Mitchell overdrive and synchro transmission. Upon removing the torque tube I found that the U-joint has 3/32" of play in and out is this normal? I would think this would cause a lot of vibration but none was felt. I am new to "A"s and this joint is unlike any I am...

    Putting model a on lift

I have a Huckster, all wood on frame. I was not too fond of lifting from the frame on my 2 post-lift. I made arm extensions from 4X4 steel 1/4" wall 24 inches long. I just slide these over the arms. I did tap a hole to act as a lock, but not necessary. If I had a welder could make a fancy...
