    '54 front end alignment

I think if that was possible with his set up he would have done it without a prompt. I've been doing business with him for years.

    Distributor

I recently changed over to a '57 distributor. It requires swapping the gear from the '54 distributor and replacing the oil pump and shaft because the drive is different. https://www.rockauto.com/?carcode=1337802&parttype=5564 https://www.rockauto.com/?carcode=1337802&parttype=5588 It also...

    '54 front end alignment

I went to the oldest shop in the area. Unfortunately, the front end guys are not old.

    '54 front end alignment

I was disappointed today. I finally have the car dependable enough to venture 20 miles away to the alignment shop. After looking at the rear tire fender opening I'm told they can't do anything because their laser fixture won't fit in the opening. The big box stores like Discount tire need an...

Barrel connectors that work with the left front double stack block on a 1956 Thunderb

I don't know. A call to ynz should clear that up. They are super helpful.

    New Wire Harness

I used these guys. They make replica wire harnesses with the correct color codes, wire lengths and connector types. My dash was out as was the entire interior so it was just a matter of reading the diagrams that come with the lit. Not cheap for sure but well worth it IMO...

    Initial Timing via Vacuum

I drilled a new vacuum passage in the throttle body as per the Eaton article. A word of advice to anyone who decides to mod their stock carb is to use a drill press for the first step. A hand drill could be disaster. Even with the drill press it was difficult, but not overly so. Now I'm...

    Initial Timing via Vacuum

I'm confused. Earlier in this thread rotorwrench stated that the load-o-matic "works opposite of how a more modern distributor that uses centrifugal advance with a vacuum port for load control such as all distributors had up into the early 1970s." My take away was the newer distributors do not...

    Initial Timing via Vacuum

I took it for a drive today. Timing set on 8 degrees BTDC. At a fast idle it is about 16. It hasn't been on the road for 9 or 10 months. It definitely ran hot. Will timing that isn't advancing as much as needed cause heat or can I chalk it off to being in the 90s? One other thing. Finding...

    Initial Timing via Vacuum

Distributor is installed and the engine started on the first try. The lure of college football and cold beer invited me to get out of the TX heat so I did. Today I'm going to adjust the timing with the vacuum port disconnected. I've come up with another question. My plan was to T into the...

    Initial Timing via Vacuum

I have a timing light, and a dwell meter, and I know how to use them. Since the Skyliner didn't come with a 256ci the question is just a red herring. I know I need vacuum for the '57 distributor. If it doesn't come from the intake manifold where would it come from? Not the stock 239 carb...
