    Need and educated guess

Having problems getting a flathead in a 41 fordor to run right. Did a compression test this AM. All but #2 come in at 90 lbs or better. #2 comes in at a paltry 30 lbs. Added some motor oil, but no change. The test was done cold as we cannot get the thing started right now. Car sat overwinter...

    good idle...no rpm

Just a follow up to my previous post. The attached link is to an MGA site and explains very well how the traditional coil/condenser/points systems works and the importance ot the condenser in the system. Its for a 12 volt system but the principles apply to our 6 volt system. The author indicated...

    good idle...no rpm

I have a 41 fordor and had just installed a new coil, condenser, rotor, caps, adjusted everything, it never started better and ran the better than it ever had.....for about 1 week when all of a sudden it developed the same symptoms as you describe. After numerous attempts to get it to run it...

    41 Tune up HELP

I had the same symptons with my 41 Fordor. Turned out it was the fuel pump, which was not pumping enough gas to supply the carb when I tried to accelerate. Rebuilt the pump with a new kit and the problem was cleared up. By the way, your avatar looks just like my car - same colour.

Want to run 12 volts GPS on 6 volts?

Maxs Antique Auto sells an inverter that converts 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground - costs about $100.00. I installed one in my 41 Fordor to run a Sony radio/CD player. Other suppliers carry them as well - Google 6volt positive ground conversion to 12 vlt negative ground - you...

    Shop heat anyone have pics?

I installed a used natural gas house furnace (behind the tool chest) that cost me $80.00. Keeps us nice and toasty when its -25C outside. The Coke machine is the beer fridge.

    Empty Carb Float Bowl

I agree with Oldford2. the powervalve itself is probably ok, however if you are not using the correct gasket/seal between the valve and the carb or the PV is not installed tight enough to make a good seal, it will leak. I have had similar problems when installing a new PV. To check if it is the...

Don, Check out their web site http://www.kwik-way.com/company/company_history.htm Perhaps they can suggest belts that would work.

Ford Carb on a 41 Fordor, has taken to flooding

Seems the problem was a pin hole in the float that resulted in the float consuming some gas and not "floating" Don't know why we didn't notice it when we adjusted the float level first time around. anyway, fixed the hole and adjusted to Kens numbers - no more flooding. As usual the simplest...

Ford Carb on a 41 Fordor, has taken to flooding

Carb was rebuilt last year - all new parts - and ran perfectly until a month ago. Car began "one morning" to run rough. Replaced spark plug wires, coil and condensor - even exchanging distributor from another 41 with no luck. Peering down the carb as the beast was running at idle, we noticed a...

    Decoding Engine Rebuilders Tag

I have a rebuilt in my 41 Fordor with a similar tag on the block. The 6211, 6331, and 6333, are part numbers for the bearings on the crank with 6211 being conecting rod bearings, 6331 the rear main bearing and 6333 the centre and front main bearings. in my engine the bearing numbers a preceded...

    1940 engine oil capacity question??

But when is a "quart" not a "quart"? US quarts are 32 ounces while Canadian quarts are 40 ounces. So for you (us) Canadians, it is really confusing - EH! I use 4.5 "liters" or so, in my 41, which is about the same as 4 US quarts - no filter, which gets me to the fill line on the dipstick that I...

    Oil Pressure Sending Unit Question

I think Dee may have your answer. I have a 41 Fordor. On start up the needle in the dash gauge would disappear to the right. I installed a mechanical gauge and noted that pressure would register 50lbs or so at startup and then settle in at 20 to 30 when warmed up. The gauge needle was still...
