    Head questions

Thanks for your research Bob. In a current thread titled "High Compression heads" two people have mentioned planing a 5.5 head, one by 50 thou and another by 100 thou. It would seem to me the amount one can plane will be dependant on whether or not the Pistons protrude above the block. I have a...

    Head questions

I read on this forum sometime ago that a Snyders 5.5 head could be raised to 6.1 by planing a certain amount off it. I cannot find the original post. Can anyone advise what this figure is? Cheers, Gavin

    FSI distributor issue

Hello Bettlesr, I have a Setup similar to what you describe and have difficulty with the timing advancing so far I get pinging. I have resorted to setting the idle timing at up to 10 degrees btdc and this seems to work but I am very interested in how you limited the advance on your zipper. Could...

Ford 150 OD Transmission install in 31 Roadster

I have an ex F150 three plus one top loader in my 28 Roadster. It has an open drive shaft with V8 rear radius arms which are heavier than the Model a ones. Its done about 5000 miles and a couple of weeks ago one of the arms broke at the end that bolts onto the backing plate. I am thinking of...

    Stromberg 97

I can see you undertaking the suggestion from Lawrie as a very interesting challenge given your approach to such things Ross. I had similar issues with the Weber on my Roadster - ok till hills or acceleration were required. The Carter pump solved the problem. Happy New Year from Great barrier...

Installing a model B crank into A have some ?'s

I had a B block which cracked when valve seat inserts were fitted. That left me with a counter weighted B crank and all the new parts I had purchased to overhaul the B engine. I also had an A block so decided to reduce the B crank mains diameter to standard A size and use A insert bearings. On...

    Apco temp gauge error?

Barkleydave, I have the same issue with the APCO gauge in my 28 Roadster. I was concerned the engine was running hot as the needle was 3/4 through the green on flat running then bordering the start of the red zone on climbing a hill. On checking with a digital heat gun I found the temp adjacent...

1935 wires on early A (AR) question

I have a similar Roadster, body number F115 with the handbrake in the same place. When I got it someone had fitted 16" wheels over the AR drums on the front wheels. The rear brakes had been changed to 12" V8 so the 16" wheels fitted fine. I learnt from this Forum that AR hubs are different, and...

    Model B Crankshaft

daveymc29, I recently did this. Had the mains ground to standard A size and used Snyders B rods which had nuts that did not contact the sump. Also fitted a modern rear seal which I hope will not leak too much. I expect to run this engine in the next month or so. Cheers, Gavin

J type laycock overdrive gets hot

Thanks for your replies to date, much appreciated as we have no personal experience with these. The units are from Triumph 2000 or 2500 saloons which used the 85/90 oils. The quantity we have put into the o/d's appears to be about half of what was put into the car gearbox from which the o/d was...
