    Synthetic Oil for Model A

I like the synthetic more than the Rotella which at one time was really a top notch oil but the synthetic has advanced to the point that metal to metal friction is next to nothing. Based most of my experience on old Harleys(1936-1984)which used to manufacture sludge to the point of a comedy...

28, 29 vs 30,31 What do you like any why?

Nothing beats the look of a nice 1929 Standard Coupe, old looks but performs as good if not better than the 30/31 style.

    Synthetic Oil for Model A

Best set up for a clean non sludge Model A engine is a 160 thermostat, Mobil One 5W30 full synthetic oil and a cam cover full flow oil filter. Change every 3000 miles or every six months, combustion causes acid so the time change of the oil. Also always let it get up to the 160 degree temp to...

NEVER EVER use grease in the Model A steering box...except like our friends from down under who drive on the wrong side!

    Engine Oil

I have always had old air cooled Harleys(1936-80), old cars and I am an A&P aircraft mech. The best is Mobil One, any synthetic grade that is 30WT like 5W30. The old Harleys always produce a lot of sludge, using Mobil One eliminated built up sludge and always kept inside of engines clean, I...

    Thermostat update.

I put a Brattons 160 degree thermostat in my 1929 coupe, in the upper hose at the top. It works good, I used to see a lot of light colored oil from moisture in the oil filter when I changed oil. Since I have installed the thermostat the engine warms up quick and no moisture in the oil, I do a...

    Adding Guages

I am starting to install a volt meter and a water temp gauge on my 1929 coupe and seen these posts. It seems like an oil pressure gauge is useless. The oil press and distributor are both run off of the cam shaft, if cam or distributor stop working it really doesn't matter if you have oil...

    Fuses

I have been looking at the wiring diagram for my 1929 coupe. I think I would like to isolate the different components with fuses so if a tail light shorts out it will not burn out the 30amp fuse I have mounted on top of the starter. Anyone tried this out with success? What kind of fuse used...

Hi Gary, used to live on an island next to yours, Indian Island Annex. One of the best places ever, at least when I was 12 years old...Indian Island.

    Points

I put the old points back in. I have messed with original points in the past on other Model A and I like them better, just stuck with newer setup for now.

    Points

I have a nice running 29 coupe with a Nu Rex modern points plate, points, and condenser. Going on a 40 mile run New Years Day so I went to Adv parts store and bought a set of points for a 1970 Ford V8, the didn't fit right. They seemed to be to bulky and were hard to adjust, any body else have...

    Brake issue

Greetings from Yorktown also, I am at Tabb Lakes. The covers are just that, as long as they don't fall out and hold the grease in for lubing the adj cone it should be OK. I would make a small peen to hold it in and put sealant over the hole to keep grease from coming out.
