Death Notice -- Elmer Swift of Ojai California

A super great guy and a legion in early V8 world here in southern Cal. His daily driver was his 34 pickup the "practical pig". Since he was born in 1934 that became his year cars and his house. He had all the models of '34 fords including trucks and enough NOS 34 parts to build complete cars...

    Union Pacific Big Boy

My wife and I chased 4014 on her maiden voyage out of Cheyenne a few years ago. Pulling into a town in Wyoming (forgot the name) they had to go on a siding since they were spending the night. As we watched her pull in there was a sudden shake and she split the rails and was on the ground . I...

    40 Ford Steering Box

A bone stock steering setup done perfectly on a 40 with radial tires is a dream to drive. Finger tip steering up to and past 75 MPH. Fix the one you got. My 40 drives great but it the whole system must be in perfect condition. First check the adjustment on yours.

    Flathead engine lifting plate

The harbor freight one works great. AAs to the "small area", those four studs/bolts will lift two or more Buicks (the full car). Do the calcs. You are good to go.

    value of my 1940 pickup

When I was looking for a 40 pickup to restore twenty some years ago, a good friend said 'if you are looking for a 40 pickup ,1) you are looking for a set of rear fenders, 2) hood, 3, ideally a set of front fenders. If they are not there it is not a 40 pickup. Everything else can be figured out...

    Dual Exhaust On A 34

Lawrie, I drilled a hole with a hole saw just like Ford did on the other side. Without doing this you have a tough time getting past the axle and the spring without making a mess of things. Looks factory original and you use all the factory hangers. I saved the disk I cut out in case someone...

    Dual Exhaust On A 34

I did this on my 32 roadster, 36LB engine ,stock exhaust manifold ,Ford script battery , mechanical brakes, etc. Yes it can be done since I did it. This takes patience and every 1/16 " matters a lot im order to do this amd still allow safe clearance to the brake and clutch action. I modified the...

How to sites ? Rebuild of 1934 trans

As noted above, get Mac Van Pelt's book as a minimum. Why? Because like carbs, the trans has probably been apart ,maybe more than once. The parts inside all kinda look the same over the years but they are not. You can put one together with the wrong parts and never know you did it. Cluster gear...

3D Printed Ford Battery Case Help

Sorry to mess up your thread on 3D printing, but to answer Ken 36 question, I don't know where I got them as I have busted open and gutted several old Ford cases in order to put Optima batteries in them. They may even be from the repro cases made back in the day as they have a more modern...

    1941 Pickup spare tire carrier

Mike, I don't have the drawings to determine what is correctly-correct. It is that I "found the perfectly round holes under all the No penetration welding. Riveting would make sense as it would perfectly locate the bracket which critical to getting the tire so it does not hit the fender, bed...

    1941 Pickup spare tire carrier

I have a pic of the bracket from my '40. The bracket was "farmer welded" to the bed side along with lots of bad welding on the broken fenders etc. These trucks used on the farm had everything crack and fall off. The farmers rewelded everything back together until they got tired of doing it and...
