Hi all,
my Ford Model A Coupe is now nearly ready.
What is missing now is an overdrive from a Volvo into my torque tube. Because I want to drive long distance on the highway. I got the tube and the J type overdrive from Laycock. I also do have a complete Volvo transmission from which I will take...
Hi bored and stroked.
Your ordered clutch package sounds awesome.
If I would had this info a few days earlier I would have ordered the same...
Now, it is a little too late...
Please let me know how it worked out!
Sorry, I didn't tell it correct.
What you see on the picture is the flywheel with the complete weights.
I got two flywheels... one with and one without weights.
I choose the one with the weights, cause of the recommendations here on the board.
I just have taken the old one in, with the weights.
The weights were not the problem in the end.
I thought they touch the bell housing, but they do not.
See my picture :-)
Had the same idea as you..
Will let you know the result..timely
Hi all,
You are right.
Flywheel is cast, ring gear is iron.
I drilled threads between the wheel and ring always across feom each other.
Will take some screws or grub screw and fix it with loctite.
This should help a lot
Hi all,
I found the problem.
Guess what it was in the end...?
The gear ring of the flywheel has moved over 7 mm into block direction. Not the whole diameter, only about a quarter.
So it rubbed with the teeth on the edge of the block and mostly on the starter plate!!!
Please see the pictures in...
Hi all, thanks again for your ideas and hints.
I am happy it is not the crankshaft play - puuh.
Now I will go step by step. Starter is out of the car.
So the plate will be next.
I will look for photos I did last time to show you the flexplate.
We will work this out together - I have to fix it...
I am with you. I just remounted the starter and push started the car- still there an getting worse! What do you think about the measured crankshaft play - ok or bad?
Thanks again..
I forgot to let you know my newest info.
I let the car idle on my lift and my small son pressed the clutch. You even hear the scratching and the decrease of rpm, caused by the force it takes....
..and now....? That is the badest of all things...right?
Should I do a plate under the Flexplate as...
Hi Bored and stroked.
Of course you are right. I only would lower the hole thing.
Sorry my mistake - was not thinking for an penny.
I did the dial indicator to the front crank pulley. Than I pushed and pulled it. The play is 0.17mm - sorry for the wrong words...
You can see how I did it on my...
Hi all, noise seems to come from flywhell scratching on block :-(
I measured the crankshaft play as you told me - sadly I can not load up my photos... :-(
Sorry it is in mm - the play is 0,15 mm - which should be 0,006692913 inch. BUT it is only on the top of the Engine I guess...I try to lower...
I will check the linkage also, which I mean has some play.
A friend of mine reminds me something, which could be bad, too.
As we mounted the TO bearing at our local tractor dealer, where I bought the bearing from (Aetna John Deere) to the slet, it slides onto it with very less force. No press...
Sorry, for delayed answer.
I have read an article in a magazin, were they cut the weights away, cause of perhaps rubbing on the bell housing. Think it was street rodder. It is a nearly actual article.
I got a pilot bearing, no bushing..
..no idea how the pre owner made sure the centerline...
