    Flathead Engine Storage

Thank you for your response. The temperature here never drops below 32°F, so freezing is not a concern. Is it okay to simply drain the coolant and leave the cooling system empty?

    Flathead Engine Storage

Hello, could you please advise on the best way to prevent rust in the original 1939 flathead engine during long-term storage? Should I drain the cooling system completely, or is it better to leave coolant in the engine? If coolant should be used, what type do you recommend? The local climate...

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Thank you very much to all for the helpful responses!! Apparently, we resolved the issues by doing the following: 1. The stop bolts were installed on the back. 2. Drag link and tie rods were installed properly. 3. We reduced the free play of the steering wheel shaft. 4. The kingpin...

Terry, could you please provide a picture of the spring bolt location that you are referring to? Mart, I am not sure if that mentioned nut is the original, please see the attachment. Lanny, apparently there aren't any brake issues.

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Hi Drolston, I will check the Ackermann with the tie rods installed, but I think the rods will interfere with the string path. Regarding the toe, we just use measurement tape front to front and back to back of each wheel. I was told that the front of the pickup was too low, so the spring leaves...

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Hi all! These days I have been trying all your suggestions: 1. Camber is very similar on both front wheels, with the wheels in the straight ahead on the floor, and on jack stands. 2. Tie in around 1/8". 3. Checking the Ackermann; the steering arms tie rod center is around 1/4" offset from a...

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

I apologize for my ignorance. Please clarify which backing plate are you referring to? Also, please see the attached pictures of the rods. Apparently they are bent, but I am not sure if they are factory bent, or I have to straighten them.

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Thank you guys for the help! One quick question: does the front axle have a side when installing it? Apparently, it fits both ways, because the axle doesn't have any marks for reference.

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Thank you Mart for the explanation! I will try the suggested layout tomorrow. Should I ignore that the issue is related to the front axle? Because it was sent to be straightened. I don't have experience, and I am not sure how to check if the repair was done correctly.

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Thank you for your quick response! The axel was bent, so years back it was sent to be "straightened". Now, when testing the pickup, we noticed the marks on the floor because the left wheel was dragging, and it also looked inclined. https://youtu.be/Qngk83g8684?si=v0C7yaFy4BFKbaGP

    Front Axle 1939 Ford pickup

Hello all, Does anyone have a diagram or picture of a 1939 pickup front axel with dimensions from various reference points? My father's pickup has an issue when turning the steering wheel to the right. The front left wheel doesn’t rotate, it drags instead, leaving rubber marks on the floor.

    1939 pickup engine oil filter

Thank you gentlemen! I am learning from your comments. I solved the previous issues. My father wants to keep the existing canister, but after testing, a new leak appeared on the cap bolt. Could the blame be because we sent to chrome the cap and the bolt? What is the best way to seal the top...
