If you’re still running the Loadmatic it sounds like its running without enough advance at speed. Also I believe, since our cars did not over heat early in their lives, that today’s formulation of the gasoline has a lot to do with it. The bumper thru exhaust on mine never gets black.
Make sure it has adequate grease. The old grease jobs are few and far between today and most have no clue.
At 80 I still do my own oil and filter changes at 1 year or 10 miles. I had problems with my grease gun and one upper ball joint but that “clamping” fitting for the grease gun they...
Wilwood has 2 MCs for their 4 piston front brake kit….they just don’t offer vacuum can assist. For the last 5 years I’ve had their kit on our 56 and so far not felt the need for a vacuum assist. I’m sure any MC will work but the MC IS close to the exhaust manifold and I use heat deflectors on...
KULTULZ… The rear end is an 8.8 Ford. Not sure on the origins but guessing an Explorer. Narrowed to stock 56 width by J&S in Huntington Beach. I wanted drum brakes and he had a set of F150’s. Still 11” so e-brake line would work. They are 2-1/4” wide shoes which is 1/2” wider than stock. The...
Yes the tech at Wilwood recommended the MC. Since I had changed complete rear ends, drum to drum, he also asked about the rear wheel cylinders. Since the rear came from a power brake vehicle he suggested I replace the wheel cylinders with a smaller diameter which I had already done since the...
I use the Wilwood kit on our 56 and have always been pleased. They are NOT power assist as I do not like the look of the vacuum can on the firewall. Make sure you use a 7/8” bore Master Cylinder. I did use the Wilwood one. If you feel the pedal pressure is too much (I did not) you can drill...
I understand that the WCFB was only used on the Mercurys which were assembled at one plant near where the Carters were manufactured. I also understand that Carter had problems with the rear barrel activation that Ford wanted and was never used on the larger base carbs. I have a Lincoln WCFB...
K…. Vic was very quick with his intakes for the new overhead valve V8’s and the use of the “new” 4 Barrel carbs….Your mentioning of the FM255 shows Vic had dual quad manifold out in 54 kinda specific to the 255 Merc rather than the 239 Ford. I’m betting quite a few 272 Fords got them put on in...
2080-S… 1952-53 Oldsmobile. 303” with similar compression ratio. A small home made throttle bracket allows the stock Ford linkage to fit. I made the progressive linkage using parts from an FE dual quad. No jetting/metering rod change was necessary. Yes I did try, it ran best as they were...
Old mics helped me do one, avatar..I used WCFB’s, they are a matching numbers set by the brass tag. They have been on 7 years and I use the car every weekend. 17 mpg on the road and 13 in town. Purolator decal is a repo from a guy doing them for AMC. I’ve only reset them twice with a unisyn...
I made a plate and painted it black when I installed a Wilwood MC. Just looked more finished.
I’d show a photo but can’t figure out how. Can’t even put a photo for an avatar….comes up error..
Re: Neighbor’s 54 F100 burnt / Salvage Sale ?s
Cool Hand.. those were required by the SCTA Land Speed racing until they mandated the “trunk” style if you had an electric fuel pump. I mounted a tee behind my oil pressure gauge with a #15 1/8” pipe thread pressure sender and put it in series with...
1 week ez start on mine. 2 weeks 3-5 pumps and hope it catches, 3 weeks or longer crank 15-20 seconds or remove air cleaner and add fuel in carb bowl. I blame the ethanol blend fuel…. Worse in California with summer blend.
