I have a new French flathead with an 8ba front and 59ab bell housing converted to 12 bolts with a new vacuum distributor and new carb. It runs good at idle but backfires through carb on accleleration. Timing with vacuum attached is about 2 degrees. I have replaced the power valve but no change...

I got the nos engine today. It looks good. I have not run a compression test yet. The problem is it has a 24 volt starter. Not sure if a standard starter will fit. Anyone had experience with that? I guess the distributor will work with 12 volt neg ground?

thanks guys. I am thinking about buying one of the nos engines, I hope it is not wasted money. I like that it apparently has an 8ba front configuration. I am going to put it in a 37 Phaeton.

There is some french flathead engines (nos) for sale on eBay. has anyone had any experience with this nos engine? I would hate to buy it and then have to spend money to rebuild it.

Coating of what? Also, even after draining the engine, there is still a little left in the lower part of the block. I was wondering if there is an additive to add that would coat ?

I have tried both ways. Does not seem to matter.

On 2 of my A’s the rust inside the engine is so bad that even after flushing out, the water soon turns to a thick rust color. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
