Looking for a Unique Model A Engine

Have you posted in the EAA forum...or other older aircraft sites? I assume so..but worth asking. Museums? How about Owls Head Maine? Great place, with lots of flying antique planes. I had a 1948 Stinson for a while. With its original Franklin 165. Good luck with the hunt. Is this plane...

Looking for a Unique Model A Engine

Hi A bit of internet sleuthing: Barry appears to own a possibly airworthy Wiley Post Model A aircraft, NC13957...which used the subject converted Model A engine. Perhaps Barry can help you. All this information was found in public internet databases. Good luck. Extremely interesting. Barry...

Looking for a Unique Model A Engine

Extremely interesting. Here is a link to the (or a) plane that this engine was used in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiley_Post_Model_A It appears from the article that maybe one airframe exists? Anybody have any information? Ethan Brand

    Emergency Brakes Binding

Hi Thanks for the recent posts (not sure what brought this thread back to life?), the additional information is very helpful. The car is back on the (back) roads and driven with loads of kids and wistful adults (my Grandfather had a Model A, Thank You so much, etc...lots of smiles). No issues...

    Emergency Brakes Binding

Update. I just called Snyders. They were very helpful. Bottom line is that this problem is likely a confluence of slightly thicker replacement lining than original, and ongoing fit problems with the back carrier. Solution is a combination of peening over the tabs on the carrier to 90...

    Emergency Brakes Binding

HI Ed Thanks for the reply. I did remove both sets of emergency brake shoes and had no binding from the service brakes (and I had previously backed off the service brakes to ease drum installation as a matter of course from previous drum brake experience)

    Emergency Brakes Binding

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I bought from Snyders, so I will call tomorrow to see if they have some problems, offer any solutions. I will measure the news ones and compare to the old. Perhaps I can grind the new ones down?

    Emergency Brakes Binding

Hi, I am assembling my 1930 Sport Coup following an off the frame body repair (rust galore). Background: My father bought this car about 1960 and completely redid the brakes, new shoes, emergency back plates, etc. The car has been used off and on for the past 54 years as a back road jalopy...

    Model A Body Assembly Details

Hi Bob Thanks for the offer. If you look at my Album pictures, you can see the work I am doing. Specifically look at the Driver Rear Cross Member detail, where the old cross member is clamped to the new sub rail.....you can see the old rivet holes in the cross member. I am trying to figure...

    Model A Body Assembly Details

Thanks for the great comments! I am being very careful to maintain the shape and position of the body as I repair it. It is nice and stable and square sitting on its somewhat intact roof structure. I am replacing parts basically one at a time while holding everything else in position. I also...

    Model A Body Assembly Details

Hi, Thanks for the tip. I have looked at all of those pics, and read dozens of back issues of Restorer, read all my restoration/repair books and manuals, read hundreds of posts, looked at hundreds of pictures....none show the level of detail I am looking for. I need the exact location of...

    Backfire!!!!

I'd also be looking for the potential of a sticky exhaust valve. Doesn't have to burn't, just occasionally not fully closing. I have found this on a number of cranky old engines...although usually as the result of sitting too long. Plug color should show the cuprit...any one that has more...
