Removed a plug from the front of intake and am now seeing 15” of vacuum. That means the 7.5 power valve should be correct and my problem is elsewhere. I do have a rebuild kit ordered for the carb and will post an update after that has been completed. Thanks for the suggestions!
The freshly rebuilt engine (292 Y block) in my '61 F100 pickup stumbles on acceleration. The carb (Autolite 2100) fuel mixture seems to be very rich at idle and I cannot lean it out with the idle mixture screws. If I turn them out more than 1/4 to 1/8 turn, the exhaust is noticeably richer from...
Thanks for all the info guys. I have decided to stick with the points for now. The frustration was not being able to get the points set correctly to achieve the correct dwell 28 - 32 with the distributor installed. There is not much space to see what you are doing with the distributor on the...
I would like to convert my distributor to electronic ignition. Anyone have any advice or recommendations for doing that? It is a 1961 292 Y Block in a '61 F100 1/2 ton pickup. I see that there are modules that would replace the points or would I be better off installing a new electronic...
Not sure why it directed to a Corvette page, but that is where I got the starter/bell housing gasket. It was buried in the links for Antique cars when hitting the link I put in the post.:o At least it was not a european car site.
Thanks Big Job!
Here is a link if anyone else is looking: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_truck_late/ford-pickup-truck-starter-to-flywheel-housing-seal-239-272-and-292-v8-with-11-clutch.html
Does anyone have a P/N and source for the 292 Y block starter/bell housing gasket? I still have the one on mine, but it is looking a little mangled and would like to replace it before re-installing. The motor is currently out so the best opportunity to replace it is now. Thanks!
I did not have the exhaust manifolds on yet and was trying to line it up with the nearest bolt hole. The tube fit in really tight and I should have backed it out and re-aligned it to be closer to the hole. I am putting the stock manifolds on initially and planning on converting to the rams horn...
Yes, the engine is out. I was tapping it in and then tried to bend it over to the bolt hole and felt it snap. This is one of the things I am trying to wrap up before putting it back in the truck. Thanks!
I broke the dipstick tube on my 292 Y Block in a '61 F100. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Having a hard time finding anything (new or used). I broke the original trying to get it back in. What is the secret to reinserting it without breaking it? On the truck it is the mid-engine...
I am having a very hard time finding head bolts for my '61 292 Y Block. Can someone tell me where I can find a set? Every place I check is out of stock. The engine is from a '61 Ford F100 Uni-body. I have had the engine machined and am now trying to re-assemble, but missing some of the head...
Any advice on how to properly install the rear main rope seal on my newly machined 1961 292 Y Block? It is the original engine going back into my son's 1961 F100. I have the service manual, but was thinking the procedure might be a bit different for the newer synthetic rope seals versus the...
Finally got news back on the status of my engine from the machine shop. Block is good, but one of the heads has a crack. They are investigating if they can repair it with a pin and stitch method. I am wondering if I should just try to find another set of heads. These are not the most desirable...
