My late 31 Victoria has the Rocky Mountain style front hubs. After replacing the bearings and races and spinning the hub to "preload" the bearings, I still have some in-and-out movement on the hub. It is about 1mm of movement. Is that close enough or should there be no movement at all?
If I...

Hello. I recently purchased a 1931 Victoria and removed the 19" spoke wheels to repack on the front wheel bearings. To my surprise, the front hubs are a later V8 style (circa 1935) hub. I am not experiencing any driving or braking issues, but my question is whether or not this type of setup...

I haven't seen the White Riversides, but I did purchase a set of the "new formula" Universal white tires last year. All was good until the last month or so when they developed the infamous brown ring. Nothing will get it off. I only drove the car 10 miles and on concrete paved roads...
Good point about being able to tighten the hose. I like the idea of just attaching to the overflow tube in the top of the radiator. That would make it a lot easier to monitor when to replace. Thanks for the advice.
I recently acquired a 1915 roadster with an aluminum Z head. I was told that these type of heads tend to deteriorate if you do not use a "head saver". I got the pictured head saver part from one of the parts vendors. Can this part be installed in the water outlet as pictured below? Thanks...
Hello everyone. I received the following reply from a poster on the MTCFA board, which answered my questions. The position of the commutator was correct after all. I sucessfully timed the engine tonight using the following procedure. Thanks again for everyone's input. Hopefully this post will...
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 1912 Touring car that has a True-Fire system. I realize that there are many opinions regarding this system, but it is all I have at this time. I really need some advice from someone that has experience with this system. The phone number of Bittner...
Good evening,
When you torque the head bolts on one of the early blocks (mine is a 1912), do you torque to 55 lbs or something less? At 55 lbs, I have already had to helicoil two bolts. I heard that the early blocks were not cast as well as the later versions. I checked the trusty Ford...
Well, I probably did it this time...
I went out tonight to see if I could loosen up the head bolts (so that I could change a head gasket for the first time this weekend) and was successful on all of them. In the process of trying to gain clearance to the passenger side of the head so that I...
Thanks guys for the quick replies.
Redmodelt - I was curious about your statement "brake bands before the improved model used the drive plate as part of the brake drum." By "drive plate," are you meaning the "transmission driving plate assembly." The brake band definitely hangs out over...
