John, this car was very near you. It was on River Rd, just east of Ellicott City. Granddad died in 1962 and my uncle inherited the car (as well as the 26 Chevrolet). Uncle could not ever make a decision and he had many offers to buy the car. He chose to leave it and it "was on the list" of...
I truly hope the guy can do something with it. Unfortunately the underside is like lace cheese. Everything from about two inches up is very thin and mostly perforated. We always wanted to restore this car. But now that I am moving to Florida, I just don't have the time or means to do it.
Twas a sad day today. A little background:
Back in June, 1972 Tropical Store Agnes came up the east coast of the US and dumped a lot of rain in a short period of time on the Mid-Atlantic states. This caused the Potapsco River to overflow its banks. Now I know that in other parts of our...
Thank you Don. I guess that in the past, the heads may have been in bad condition, cracked, corroded or whatever, and granddad had them replaced. Or maybe the engine was worn out and a truck engine was put back into the car. I was too young to know what was going on.
It makes me very sad...
My grandfather bought a 1935 Ford two-door car back in 1935. It is the two-door model that has the larger rear side windows with a trunk, not a rumble seat. I think it was called a Tudor Sedan. Unfortunately, the car was involved in a flood in 1972 and has been outdoors ever since. Very, very...
Etching the finish of new hardware would certainly help the paint to adhere. And using the oven to dry is an excellent idea. I only have cats living with me now, no wife or significant other so using the oven is not a problem ;)
I don't know what type of finish was on the original hardware, glossy, flat or satin. If satin is OK, I have used Rustoleum 7777 Satin Black for just about any black surface that I have needed. I don't have a Model A yet but have a '65 Corvair and '69 Kaiser M715 army truck. The Rustoleum paint...
I have seen Wayne at the Amelia Concourse here in Fernandina Beach many times. I have to agree that he seems to be a very nice person who is not at all snooty. I like his show as well. Glad that you got to see him I guess the show on Hershey will be on in about April 2015 or so. Sorry that I was...
Check out post # 5 above ^^ Thanks!
Thanks for the welcome Bruce. I look forward to digesting a lot of the information here before I am privileged enough to own a Model A.
I forgot to be more specific. I have a home in Nassau County, Fernandina Beach, Florida. I am just off of Amelia Island close to Yulee, FL. This is north east of Jacksonville, in the most north east portion of Florida.
Thank you for the welcomes above! I have checked for local clubs and there is one in Jacksonville, FL. Not too far from my home in Florida. I look forward becoming involved in yet another hobby and really appreciate the help finding a nice car. All in time of course.
Again, Thanks!
Hello to all. I am Don Cavey (real name!) and I am in the process of moving from Maryland to Florida. I am retired 11 years now and 66 years of age. I hope to find and purchase a Model A Ford sometime in the Spring of 2015. I have a home in Florida already but have not sold the home here in MD...
