    6v generater vs 6v alternator

I did the switch several years ago to a 6 volt alternator, but was forced into it by not doing good research! I decided to change out my headlamps to allow original headlight housings to take a 6 volt sealed beam headlamp, next is the only ones available are Halogen with a bit higher current...

    Starts, runs, dies

I really got a kick out of Marshall's solution! Brought back memories!I really enjoyed your reply for the starts and dies! My dads 1929 model A, was a daily driver up into the 50's! I was of age to drive and I started learning to drive in that car. He told me to never let it get below a quarter...

Ahooga Horn motor spins real slow

A klaxon can draw up to 15 amps at 6 volts! Using the formula that puts the resistance in the .4 to .5 ohm range! you can also Connect an ammeter in series with the horn direct and disconnected from the car and check amp draw! Low amp draw and horn not working would indicate high resistance some...

Some of the aftermarket light units are troublesome! May need to play with it a bit to get it functioning!

    Muffler clamp whats the secret

I was looking thru these posts to see if I should post my aluminum foil and muffler sealer combination to deal with the pipe to manifold connection. Have had mine working now with no leaks at the coupling now for about 3 years! And visually, it looks stock! The copper gasket is in my junk box!

    Starved for fuel

Check the coil and point gap! Could be a heat issue with points and a borderline defective coil! Don't think it would be the condenser as they are either good or bad!

    Registration Cost Question

These costs vary by state! I would venture California has some critical requirements Here in Missouri the requirements for using a vintage plate on an over 25 year old vehicle is to find a plate of the year of the vehicle and apply for use. The general Missouri state rules follow: Year of...

    compression

If you wish to know the actual PSI compression, the first thing needed is what the high compression head Compression ratio is stated. I think the Police head was 5.5:1! Anyway there is a URL that provides the basics for doing a calculation. Here it is...

    Sears Marvel 2405

Only a suggestion..... it is important to determine if the car has a intermittent electrical issue or a fuel issue. If a reliable source carb has been installed and the problem remains the same, I would start looking elsewhere. A simple check would be to squirt starting fluid in the intake and...

    Round Northeast Speedometer

Well now! The speedometer you have is one of the least installed in Model a Fords, so if you intention is to keep it original and working, and you have the $$, you may choose to send it to a reliable repair center that is familiar with this model. To partially answer your request, I did find a...

Do I need a new Coil?

I doubt it is the coil. A component across the point path needs to be checked. It is the condenser. They can and do fail.

    Any advice?

It is either gas flow consistency or spark consistency! There is no mention of the gas tank being cleaned and 'rust sealed" This is one of those issues that allows the engine to start right up, run for a while and then when tank rust covers the fuel hole in the tank, the engine starves and...

Starter is not generating enough torque

I venture you have a vehicle with a 12 volt battery! Don't do this for very long but just touch the terminals to the starter and see if it runs! If so you may have a bad 6 v battery. otherwise if it does not run any better, could be brushes or ??

I think it's time to move to an alternator

Rebuilding the good ole Model A generator is the way to go if you wish to remain original. Some folks are not aware that Henry sized the generator to deal with battery needs for times the car was built and sold. And there are adjustments that can be made with the 3rd brush. This old gen can...
