    Narrow Bed 78-A Info Needed

Joe, thankyou for your thoughtful reply, we really appreciate it. Your thoughts mirror our thoughts, and we have seen the articles you mentioned. We know there were rivets installed in those holes on assembly, and at this point we are looking for actual examples of original strips to determine...

    Narrow Bed 78-A Info Needed

I'm looking for anyone with an original pickup with the narrow bed (78-A), or even just the a narrow bed that has the original bed skid strips. There was a rivet in the outside strips even with the center pan in the bed. If you have just some original strips without a bed, that will work also...

    Transmission Shifting

After you take the top off of the transmission, make sure the shift lever ball is in each shift fork as in the photo, this is the neutral position. Make sure the shift lever ball didn't go past one of the forks. It would be a good time to make sure the shift lever ball is round and not worn out.

Yes, Steve and I are working on the pickup book together. We are aware of the Budd pickup photos, but we are trying to dig deeper into the Budd involvement with Ford. It's probably a longshot, but it doesn't hurt to ask. We may turn up a lead or a hint to guide us to more info. rotorwrench...

Model A Pickup Bed Info Needed

Thank you guys for the input and the photos. I believe that, as Brent says, these visable waffled rivets on the pickup bed are an assembly line anomaly. It's still interesting to see where they show up, and I encourage anyone else to post photos if they run across any on their pickup bed.

Model A Pickup Bed Info Needed

While doing some research I have found a pickup bed with waffle stamped rivets in an unusual location on the bed. I haven't seen any other beds with waffled rivets in this location. These do look like they were done at the assembly plant. If you guys with pickup beds can take a look at your...

Removing broken head studs from block

Have you tried pre-heating the broken stud with a torch to get better penetration with the mig welder? I haven't tried it yet, but have been thinking about it since I've had similiar negative results in getting the nut to stay attached to the stud from the cold weld.
