    221 V8 Engine Oil Recommendation

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll stick with the Rotella 15W40 for now. I've noticed that the oil turns black quickly. I have no history on this engine. Oil turning black possibly because previous owner didn't use detergent oil, or there may be a layer of crud on the bottom of the oil pan. I...

    221 V8 Engine Oil Recommendation

Sorry I've taken so long to get back to responding on this post. Some other pressing issues came up and I haven't had much spare time. I'd like to thank everyone for your responses. For now I am using Rotella 15-W40. It's a little thinner than the straight 40 I run in my A, but it will...

    221 V8 Engine Oil Recommendation

Hello All, I'm new to the Early V8 world. I just bought a 1936 1/2 ton pickup with a 221 V8. I pick it up tomorrow, and one of the first things I am going to do is change the oil. Any recommendations for a good oil for these engines? I've been on Ford Barn for a while in the Model A...

    Zinc in motor oil?

Jeff, Model A engines need zinc as an anti-wear agent. There are threads that go into the technical details, so I won't go into it here. You can buy the additives separately, or there are oils that have the additives already mixed in. I have been using Brad Penn (Penn Grade1) It has the Zinc...

    Kerosene in Engine Oil?

I am still new to the Model A world, but I think I can offer some advice on this. I dropped the oil pan in my car because I had no idea of the history of the car. Glad I did because there was a lot of sludge in the pan, not just on the bottom, but in the baffles as well. You will need a new...

    Water Pump Replacement

Well....now I have a water pump ready to go in. As I mentioned before....took the radiator off, had it boiled out, patched up and painted. During this project I found that the front motor mount springs are missing. Also, the bottom washer was replaced with something that looks like it came...

    Water Pump Replacement

Update on my water pump exercise. I appreciate everyone's help, and after thinking about it, I have decided to rebuild an original style pump. As I mentioned, there's a gentleman here in town that has some parts, including pumps, that he no longer needs. I like the idea of the "leakless"...

    Water Pump Replacement

I am not planning on using JB Weld or bailing wire....I was just kidding.... The old water pump is done. I am mulling over the suggestions I've received...(Which I do appreciate by the way) and trying to decide which way to go. I spoke with a gentleman last week who was telling me about the...

    Water Pump Replacement

Today I spent a little time cleaning up....might as well...no sunday drive through the country. (Yes..I am still bitter about that)...Anyway, I actually found the missing chunk of metal. It was in the radiator....Heard something rattling around when I put it in the truck. Used a magnetized...

    Water Pump Replacement

My water pump developed a leak around the shaft a while back. So I went to a local supplier of model A parts and obtained the packing. On Friday I set about what I expected to be a 45 minute task with the anticipation of taking a nice Sunday morning drive. BTW...it is sunny and 60°F today, but...

    1935 Tudor

I haven't had the chance to go back and look at the car. Work keeps getting in the way (stupid work...) I have a semi-retired co-worker who has car skills I could only dream of. He builds cars from frame up. I will try to take him to kick the tires.

Tom, I think you are right. I was assuming that the contact plate would work on either, but looking at Bratton's, they mention specific light switch assembly for single bulb, but for 1928 cars. It would be worth checking into before buying just the harness.

If the switch you have only has three positions, you will need a new harness. The harness pictured below will work for park, low, and high beam.
