8ba engine going in '40 sedan problems

Gentlemen, again. Turns out that the flywheel that was installed on my 8ba engine was not an early flywheel as I had mentioned earlier. I was lead to believe that it was a 59ab which in fact it is not, like you guys mentioned. It did have a 9" pp and clutch disc installed. It appears to be a...

8ba engine going in '40 sedan problems

Thank you gentlemen. After I pull the engine and see what my engine builder did to use the early flywheel, I'll report back to you. And when I've taken your advice and got my '50 flywheel resurfaced and drilled for the 9" clutch, and all put back together, I'll let you know how it all shook out...

8ba engine going in '40 sedan problems

Let me get this straight.I failed to mention that the crank is a Merc 4". Does that have the same bolt pattern as my 8ba flywheel ? I'm assuming that you guys will tell me that it does. Anyway, I should use the ( 50 truck ) 8ba flywheel for sure. Either use the 11" clutch and pp for stump...

Went to drive to the muffler shop for new exhaust, and can't get in gear. My engine builder used my '40 flywheel with...

    cleaning sludge from inside engine

@46ford, my engine is bolted to an engine test stand that I built this winter, so its accessability is not an issue.I will mount it on an engine stand so I can roll it over. I believe it to be 1950 ? truck engine. It has the truck oil pan on it. The heads say 8BA. It is a running engine. I'm...

    cleaning sludge from inside engine

Whats the best way to reinstall pan when I'm done.I'm a rookie, and don't want to cause a leak or open a can of worms in duing this. Also what solvent would you use, kerosine, deisel, etc, or should I leave well enough alone and install my parts. I think that it...

    cleaning sludge from inside engine

Good morning, I am now ready to install my alum. heads and 2x2 intake that I learned to polish here on the site. Uncle Max did his magic on a couple of carbs for me also. Yesterday I pulled off the old heads and intake in preparation of installing the new parts. Before I do I would like to clean...

    Acoupla questions

Greetings folks, I have 2 questions to ask. 1st: why are the exhaust manifold bolts different sizes on my 8ba? The front ports are 7/16", the middle & rear are 3/8". Got to be a reason for this. 2nd: how will a 3" extension affect torque readings on my torque wrench, some bolts just need and...
