If i had the pistons cut so they were flush with the top of the block and ran a copper gasket which is .080. Then ran that with the winfield head thats .080 clearance between top of piston and head.
If i left piston alone (.055 above block) and just ordered a .125 copper gasket that would leave...
I recently got a winfield head 6.8:1. There is no relief cut for the piston and my piston comes up about .055 above the block. The gasket i have is only .60 and thats not compressed yet so much know this isnt going to work. I used a copper felpro 7013 previously and after i took that off its...
Well after the new copper gasket and the copper coat spray it seems ok. I warmed up the engine at idle let cool and retorqued. Then today I drove about 5 miles and still see no coolant leaking. Ill retorque tomorrow after it's cooled down. I'll leave the high compression head at 55ft lbs and...
Ok, I was going to let it warm up then retorque. I usually get a good 1/4 to 1/2 turn more out of it when it's hot. Then retorque it a few other times afterwards. Cold and hot. We'll see tomorrow how it holds up.
I did take all the head bolts out last time and clean all the studs free of any...
Ok, I went with the copper gasket and a ton of permatex copper spray. It's had coolant in it for about 4 hours and so far no leaks. I'm going to give it until tomorrow to sit. I torqued the high compression head to 55 ft pounds following the correct tightening sequence. I torqued 20lbs, 35lbs...
We'll I have got nothing but problems. I retorqued I'm the morning then drive around town for about 9 miles. "Highlight of my day, had a nice cruise". Well when I got home I noticed coolant still seeping through the head but even worse my new aluminum radiator cracked along the bottom weld for...
All good info, ill retorque it a few times and see it it stops. If not I'll try the stop leak. I really don't want to drain it and take the head off again.
Do you guys always torque when cold or when it's hot??
The stock head on the rebuilt engine didn't seep but it was cracked. I did follow the directions on letting it warm up. I put the head on yesterday torqued. Put coolant in it today then warmed up the engine for 20 min. Shortly after it started seeping after it was turned off. I will now wait...
