    Unique bearing install

My ‘47 59AB is out for a rebuild and I received some photos of the bottom end. My engine builder has never seen this type of bearing use. Looks like main bearings used as rod bearings. Ha anyone seen this type of install before?

How many attachment points in a 1940 Ford Tudor

Yes, they are carriage colts,( I originally misnamed them - They are also called C Class bolts.) I looked at the running boards and frame mount locations which are square - so 47Merc is correct. Thanks all for your input. Now, on the the next thing.

How many attachment points in a 1940 Ford Tudor

Work progresses on the rust repair. Have fit the new floor and am working on attachments points to frame. Bought a bolt kit from Drake's (bolts, nuts, washers). In the kit are 3 lengths of hex head bolts, which should be easy to place. Also included are 14 bolts (I think they are called Class...

How many attachment points in a 1940 Ford Tudor

Randy - You are the man. I looked at Drake's site and couldn't find it. Thanks. TJ - I am doing as you suggest. I have the reinforcement of the B pillars mostly figured out. Very busy place - floor, rocker, rocker extension, B pillar and rear fender tab all come together and attach with 1 bolt...

How many attachment points in a 1940 Ford Tudor

I am working toward removing the body from the frame and have been looking for bolts holding the body to the frame. Since I have already removed the entire floor, the only points I cannot be sure of are those starting at the rear seat kick up working rearward to the trunk. How many should I be...

Sheet Metal Replacement - Order of Repair

I'm looking at a substantial rust repair cycle and need some advice as to where to start. 1940 Ford Tudor - rusted floor, rusted rockers and rusted through A and B pillars. So, where to start? My logic says start with rockers and build from there. Question is, how much to remove at a time and...

Flathead show and tell what year is it?

So, consensus is that it is a later 40's motor, possibly commercial. Canadian car so no surprise about the "C" designation. The comment regarding water pumps makes ask if there are specific part numbers, or can they be replaced with car pumps. One has a broken snout and needs to be replaced. B&B...

Flathead show and tell what year is it?

Gentlemen - I have finally pulled the motor and trans from my 40 tudor and would like some input as the engine's credentials. I have posted some photos below (don't know how to rotate them, sorry) and ask: Is this a 40 motor with later parts added, or is it a later model in an older car. Someone...

    Restoring Early Ford Parts

So, I'm reading your posts and thinking "Aren't they lucky to have access to the parts they need, regardless of condition." I'm sitting up here in Canada, where it appears that every early Ford V8 has either rusted back to the earth, or been crushed to make soup cans. As I disassemble my '40...

Is this 59A flathead part available?

I own a 1940 Ford tudor with a C59A motor. On the Clutch side of the block, there is a “cup” that accepts the starter shaft as it engages the flywheel. Is this “cup” available as a separate part? Mine has been worn through in the area closest to the ground (likely from too many unpaved...

Safe max HP for a stock frame

My first thought is a late 50's hemi - max. 354 cu in. Inspiration comes from Don Garlitts. His museum has a couple of 40's in his personal collection in Ocala. They are stunning.
