    Break-in gone wrong!

Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay! I left the intake off and spark plugs out but cranked it with new oil and pushrod plug installed. Once primed, the gauge showed 45-50 psi just cranking, not even running. I'm getting exited! For the second time! Now I'm waiting for new plugs to show up and a little...

    Break-in gone wrong!

I built a plug, installed it, and used my sub-par primer to test oil flow/press. I got to about 12 psi and chickened out. Not sure how much pressure a 1 qt. oil jug can handle. Now I need to decide if I reassemble or look further for more problems. Seems like the projects I tackle always have...

Cam is a Schneider with 0.350 lift. I think my ignition is in good shape as it is all new Mallory stuff. Do I need a resistor plug?

Plugs were Autolite 3924. Do you have a recommendation that won't conflict with the valves?

    Break-in gone wrong!

I know that someone said this earlier... fuel pump bushing... I rigged up this primitive primer. The blue cap screws onto the oil jug and I add compressed air to the top(or I guess bottom) of the jug. You can see the oil coming up the bushing, and that's with about 1-3 psi. Now imagine 50-60...

And on the spark plug thing, I have Edelbrock 1115 heads. They say to use a 3/4" reach plug and that is what I put in, but they were too long. Spark plug spacers? cost almost more than the plugs themselves?

Pulled a rod cap and everything was completely coated in oil, which is a good sign. No looks of seizing?.. Tell me what you think.

    Oh sorry, that's right...what was I thinking, or, maybe I wasn't.

I really like this idea. Thank you!

    Break-in gone wrong!

Thank you. Ya I realized later that the drive gear on the back of the cam and the driven gear on the pump are the same size.

    Break-in gone wrong!

So... I haven't been working on the engine actively, but my brain has still been working on it. There were two problems, and I had been focusing on the one which I thought was the most important. The other issue was the spark plug reach was a bit too long and the pistons were closing the gaps...

Not on an 8ba. The ONLY relief is on the pump itself. Unless I'm off my rocker.

What is the stock (factory) bypass pressure? And would i just shim the spring for more? Not saying this one's bad, just wondering.

    Break-in gone wrong!

I checked and there is no modification for 90% oil filter. Follow my logic. If the pump pumps oil when I turn it by hand, and the cam and gear turn when I hold them with a wrench and turn the crank, and the pump gears have not appeared to spin on pump shaft, and the oil pickup is stock with no...

    Break-in gone wrong!

First start had 40 psi. Same for the next 4-5 runs.
