Can the overtive govenor on a 51 Ford be adjusted re its cut in and out speeds?

I have replaced the standard 3 speed with a 51 Ford car overdrive transmission. Now the clutch will not release. Seems I read someplace that the transmission input shaft splines may be not cut far enough back on some trannies. Anyone else have this problem?
