    1956 292 Y block dipstick length?

Yes, mine is up front. This makes more sense. Thanks for replying! I’m going to see if by straightening the few zigzag bends at the top of the dipstick will get me the extra 2-3/8 inches I need. I’m doubtful it will so I will need to find the right one somewhere.

    1956 292 Y block dipstick length?

I discovered my dipstick is for a ‘59 292. I was able to lengthen it by pulling the blade out of the handle just enough get the length right. I didn’t need to straighten the zigzags. Thanks again for the measurements.

    DIY Oil changes

The shop I worked at back in the 80’s used the same oil for every oil change on every car. We had an oil dispenser that we pulled from a reel hanging on the ceiling. It had a dial that counted the quantity we put in.

Who do you think they left out ?

They left out the Ford Thriftpower inline-six cylinder engine. That helped make their compact cars very successful and affordable.

    ‘56 trunk key lock question

When I insert the key into the trunk lock, is it supposed to turn full circle? It unlocks at the usual spot if I carefully stop but it can be turned all the way around. It stays locked if I pass the magic spot.

    1956 292 Y block dipstick length?

Can someone measure their 292’s dipstick. I’m sure mine is too short. The one I have is only 21” long. Oil barely shows on the tip of it after a refill of 6 quarts for an oil and filter change. I realized something was off when the my usual oil drain pan was nearly full. There was probably...

    steady rest

OK, according to Y-blocksforever, “The Y-block steady rest, used on 1954-1956 Ford engines, was designed to enhance engine stability and reduce cabin vibrations by supporting the front of the engine, often dubbed a "freeway hop" dampener. It linked the engine to the frame crossmember to reduce...

What Miker said. There’s an access cover in the trunk floor that has a few small bolts holding it on. Really easy to check.

6 volt. Starter installed in 56 ford car

I used to run a 6v/12v switchable battery in a ‘51 Cadillac I once owned. The battery was basically two 6v batteries in a 6v battery case. It had a solenoid that would switch to 12v to start and run at 6v for everything else. Never had any starter problems.

    Boring a 260

I second that. It’s a 60 year old block. I’m sure rust in the water jackets will have degraded it too. You need to make sure to see if it’s been bored out already.
