I may have over torqued the castle nuts on my axle spindles to tight! The information that I was given from a manual was probably wrong. When I loosened up the castle nut, the spindle had movement. Now I need to know where to get the correct information to properly set tension on the...
Thank You 55blacktie. Now I will look for a NOS upper ball joint and replace the L/S upper ball joint on my car.
I had bought a complete front end ball joint package kit from a T-Bird supply catalog and installed them myself with the body off the frame. I don’t know who the manufacturer...
I did a frame cleaning and replaced all the ball joints, springs and the L/S spacer on the front axle spindles with new parts. The passenger side seems to have normal pivot movement, but the drivers side is very rigid and not pivoting with reasonable pressure. Is there a solution to this...
Thank You for the question.
I am not sure if I need to find a 292 oil slinger or just continue to use my 312 oil slinger. I was describing the front mounted oil slinger (cone shape on crankshaft) next to the timing chain sprocket.
Will the 312 front oil-slinger still fit on the crankshaft...
Thank You Ted Eaton for your expert experience on this subject. I didn’t expect to get such a publicly famous Y-Block expert involved in this thread. Thank You again for your information on 312 crankshafts.
Sharing your time and Y-Block experience with Ford Barn members is very valuable for...
I would like to Thank Everyone Again for all the helpful advise and especially your willingness to share your mechanical knowledge with other people.
Your shared experiences clarify the historical reasons for the subject matter. Thank You!

The options we will have, based on your personal and practical driving experiences, are so important to this discussion.
I need to decide on a camshaft for my Y-Block that will work well with a 56 air cooled Ford-O-Matic transmission. Acceleration is important, but reliability is more important. Your experience is highly valued to me, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thank you.
MY DRIVING PLANS FOR...
When you get the automatic transmission out and ready to inspect or rebuild, decide whether you want to replace the metal starter gear ring on the torque converter. I decided to replace mine, so that I wouldn’t have to pull the transmission again for a new gear ring later on.
Thank You all for your helping me.
I am a new member on the Ford Barn and this is my first Y Block rebuild. I appreciate everyone who has offered their experience and knowledge to this Y Block rebuild project.
Does anyone have information on Y Block cylinder bore sleeves?
Is the procedure reliable and cost effective? I have a 292 engine block that may need one cylinder sleeved. Thank you for any information available.
