This Sunday.. Annual Model A Day in Sharon, WI

Just saw this and mentioned it to my son and we're excited to try the trip (longest our A has ever been). We can easily get to Lake Mills, can anyone recommend a Model A friendly route to Sharon from Lake Mills? Highway 89 isn't exactly friendly.

To the vertically endowed.... question on mirrors and seats

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. My A isn't going anywhere - my Dad's first vehicle and far to much sentimental value. I will have to learn a bit more about how my seat riser has been modified, to see if I can incorporate a couple of these suggestions. I've been working on the...

To the vertically endowed.... question on mirrors and seats

Greetings, I'm 6'5". I finally have my '31 A truck in a reliable enough state to use it regularly. On long trips the hunched over nature in which I'm driving starts to become uncomfortable and it would appear almost every mirror combination meant for the A, will not work for someone of my...

Steering gearbox from steering column - newbie question

Took near everyone's advice. Hindsight this wouldn't be difficult to do, but I sure did my best to make it tough. Bottom line, new steering!

Steering gearbox from steering column - newbie question

Ok, I'm hearing two things - yes its easier to work with if it's out of the vehicle. The other is that if I can get the sector housing off I can separate the steering column from the gearbox? (yup, I got all four nuts from around the sector housing. there is literally nothing screw, bolt, nut...

Steering gearbox from steering column - newbie question

Greetings again forbarn. From my last post I've decided to rebuild/replace my steering gearbox. I have Les Andrews book and a 1931 closed cab pickup. I have every living screw/bolt/nut removed from the gearbox, but I cannot seem to slide it off the shaft as easily indicated by Mr. Andrews...

First post - opinions on suspension and braking

Interesting tid-bit/story and update to this thread. Based on information in this thread I went looking for someone who knows Model A's to let them take it for a test drive and get an opinion. Here's where it gets interesting. I found the original mechanic who helped my Dad get my truck...

First post - opinions on suspension and braking

My '31 is just a pickup not an AA or anything heavy-duty.

First post - opinions on suspension and braking

I will research this as well. As I wasn't aware they were present till this post. Again doubtful they've been touched... ever.

First post - opinions on suspension and braking

@Ian - awesome thread. Thanks for the advice. My brakes since being redone/re-calibrated do operate fine, again at 35 or less. I fear faster. Sounds like a visit to someone who knows A's would be a good investment on my part to diagnose the suspension and steering. @SeaSlugs - This sounds a...

First post - opinions on suspension and braking

Thanks for the reply George. I have no doubt my steering needs some work. I'm curious - at 35mph+ my truck feels like I could be a pilot on one of the Apollo missions (pretty rough), is this "normal" operation? I realize with a 80 year old suspension it shouldn't expect a lap of luxury but you...

First post - opinions on suspension and braking

Regards, First time poster, been keeping tabs here for a few years. I've recently inherited my Dad's '31 truck making me a 3rd owner of a "farm-special" if it were. I've since replaced all glass, rebuilt the carburetor, replaced all electrical wiring, replaced king-pins and re-calibrated...
