I'm cleaning up an original gas gauge face plate (the black face plate with the white index line visible behind the glass). I have been told acrylic laquer is gasoline proof and could be used to restore the face plate. Is this true? Are there better alternatives? Any help would be appreciated...

Hello, As I understand it, there were some variations in the early-style, straight-side plugs. Are the 4 you have all alike so as to make a matching set? Do they work? Do you have a picture per chance? Thank you.
