    wire sizes/gauge

I have no regrets about changing the starter & alternator wires to 2/0 which solved a LOT of wiring, starting and charging problems. Maybe overkill but the 6 v was kind of temperamental.

    Clutch problems

Love to not put her to bed as there are lot's of really terrific days during the winter and the heater in this thing is great! But, here in Quebec there is a snow tire law that says after the 15 of Dec you have to have 4 snows on it . . . . . kind of sucks, but it is what it is.

    The Demize of the Flathead

Kind of funny that this subject has come up. When <I> was doing the rebuild, several friends wanted me to change to a 12 volt, negative ground system with either a 350, or a Detroit or Windsor motor. My comment to them was always the same - when you pay the bills y'all can do whatever the hell...

    Clutch problems

Problem solved ( by Bob's garage ) The clutch release bearing was rusted to the flywheel as Cas mentioned and after playing around with it for an hour on their lift Yogi freed it up, thankfully. Again my thanks to all I should rename myself timid . . .

    Clutch problems

1.) Yes when I parked her in the backyard last fall, the clutch was working as it takes me about 15 minutes to snake through the gate, around the cabanons and then park a slight angle to the road. 2.) I don't know if something like the woodruff key sheared off, or if the fingers in the clutch...

    Clutch problems

Hi folks My 51 M-1 was running fine when I put her in a tempo and parked her for the winter ( it gets cold and lots of snow here in Montreal, Qc) After a frame off that lasted 6 years, there were no issues all of last summer. She starts well ( I changed the battery to starter connections with...

    Starter Solenoid

Thanks Supereal! Now that I am getting familiar with this site, I am finding that all kinds of folks are having the same issues that I have been going through since 07 - some of them the trucks age, but also my lack of knowledge and simply not knowing what to ask of who, so many, many thanks (...

    Starter Solenoid

Thanks for the explanation and the reason why the new solenoid is not working the way the original did - I am on my way to test both, and hopefully this will solve the stuck starter problem! With my years of experience at this ( I have never changed either before ) I did not know if the problem...

    Starter Solenoid

Hi folks, I am trying to get a rebuilt starter for my 51 239 Mercury Flathead working so I would appreciate your help. The new solenoid doesn't 'click' but the push button on the bottom engages the starter to turn over the motor, which then starts. However the starter stays locked on - is this...
