    Engine Oil Additive

I would only use modern oils if you have an oil filter installed. Modern oils are designed to keep dirt and particles suspended so they can be caught in the oil filter. The model A oiling system works by letting dirt and other particles in the oil collect on the bottom of the oil pan when the...

Cylinder head cracked between #2 and #3

Update: Totally forgot to give feedback on the question about the block. I cleaned it properly and could find no damage to the block anywhere. There were 5 studs that I did not manage to get out, but as the threads were fine I just let them in the block. Didn't want to break one off and deal...

Cylinder head cracked between #2 and #3

I'll have to check tomorrow if there's damage in that area, didn't see any while cleaning the block though. I already removed built up carbon and cleaned the surface with acetone, so any crack should be visible. Wouldn't want to use a steel wire brush as I fear that would scratch the surface. I...

Cylinder head cracked between #2 and #3

Hello everyone, on Monday I started to remove the cylinder head because I still had problems with an overheating engine under >50% load along with foaming coolant. Retorquing the head didn't change anything, so I suspected a damaged head gasket. Upon removal I found that the head gasket seemed...

A perplexing oiling problem - A new one to me!

I think it's generally a bad idea to put plastic things near powerful heat sources so I would rather pick the spot where Werner put the hose. ;)

Float-A-Motor Mount on 28 roadster with fixed front mount

Hello Richard, that car is quite original with only VERY minor modifications, it doesn't even have external door handles that the later cars had as standard for example. From the condition I'd guess it was stored in a barn or sth. for a long time and then revived on a budget sometime mid-80s...

Float-A-Motor Mount on 28 roadster with fixed front mount

Hi guys, I do have a copy of the service bulletins, will take a look at that. I am really hesitant to cut the front mount though and would rather like a bolt-on solution. However, I'm pretty sure the rear mount rubber needs to be changed, I have yet to find a rubber part that didn't need to be...

Float-A-Motor Mount on 28 roadster with fixed front mount

Hello everyone, I'm driving a '28 roadster with a fixed front motor mount. As far as I know only the early '28s had that mount. As I'm having vibration-issues at certain revs I'm thinking about switching the fixed rear mount for a "A-5089-FAM FLOAT A MOTOR KIT". While researching about that...

    Oily substance in intake manifold

Hi guys, sorry for the late replay. The plugs look fine, they all did have a very thin layer of carbon, but I still have some trouble with the carb (idle jets keep being clogged due to very small particles, most likely grit from not being used for a long time) so I had to balance that out with...

    Oily substance in intake manifold

Hello guys, today I changed the old, warped manifolds for new ones. While doing so I noticed an oily substance trapped below the valves in block and intake manifold. It's only on the intake-side, the exhaust-side is clean without any traces of oil or other residues. I do not have any steam...

    Snyder's drops Signal Stat 900

I have one of the cheap chrome units installed. It did rattle like hell at first, there's no denying that. But after I went through the entire body it's perfectly silent now, even on rough roads or high rpms. It took some time though.

    Piece of puley broken off

Yes, it will change the balance of the engine. But I don't think it will be noticeable or considerably increase the wear of the engine because the part is relatively small, quite close to the center of rotation and the engine runs with a relatively low speed. I would be more concerned about...

    Break noise.

Check your right side then. I adjusted mine (without changing shoes or drums) and the brakes don't pull to either side, even when braking hard.

    Mysterious LED turn signal problem

What's the current rating of the relay? Your bulbs will draw more current when the voltage rises, so maybe it only works with the engine off because the relay can only JUST handle the current of the bulbs? -> Check if the combined current of your bulbs exceeds the rating for the relay.
