    1936 Engine Problem

i think you'd want to attach it from your battery to the starter relay, to engage the relay, not to conduct the entire starter load. Starter load would be many amps, 100 or so im thinking. Al Hook

    No room for more trucks

I also went to Bonneville once, in 1972. Mary and I had made a big 2 week loop of the west, seeing everything we could, starting with Glorietta, New Mexico where we attended a Baptist Convention. We then saw the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, travelling north to Utah, where we saw the salt...

    1942 Ford deluxe coupe project

Hi John, Congrats to your dad on his purchase and his enthusiasm at 91. I went to Winthrop Harbor, Ill. to my mom's youngest brother's 100th birthday party in Feb of '25. He was still driving, and still actively restoring a '57 pickup which is beautiful. I turned 80 this year but recently...

    Power steering for 52

Ford also used the add-on ram style of power steering on their tractors. I've never installed one tho. I'm guessing the valving would be built into the cylinder. Al Hook

You can also increase the stall speed of the drive clutch by tightening (shortening) the spring. That might be all you need to keep in the engine's power band. Those clutches are tunable by quite a bit. Of course, changing the overall gear ratio (rear sprocket) would change things, as well...

    No room for more trucks

Gary, it sounds like you have one of those generic belt-drive torque converters on your diesel. If it's like the ones i've fooled with, there are three positions in the driven clutch hub into which the torsion spring tang may be inserted. It's quite likely in the center position. Moving to...

Nice work on the motorcycle, GB. Sorry about your thumb as well. I saw a sticker on a natural patina car at a show this weekend that read "Shiny Paint Causes Stress!". I thought that was quite fitting for a primered old hot rod like mine. Al Hook

Hey Greg, Welcome to the barn. I like the sound of your hot rod 40. My '48 is also a hot rod and I seem to be welcome here. I have a 355 Olds and a Muncie 4-spd in my car, with front disc brakes and a GM 10 bolt rear. Its a fun car! Al H

    Pikes Peak, Again

Thanks for taking the time to do these great travel portfolios. I always enjoy them, having done several trips to the west in some of these very areas. I'm 80 now and as my wife is not in the greatest condition, we probably won't get to do these kinds of trips again, unless with my sons and...

How to get the transmission off the crankshaft? 47 V8

Clutch linkage as well? However, after reading pistonbroke's comment, I think he might be correct. You may be required to remove the entire clutch to get the trans out, which won't be easy. Why do you need to remove the transmission? Al Hook

    Early Mercury block vs 59A

Some people would bore their flatheads to 3.375". Maybe that's the reason, I can see what you mean. You would still have .020" counterbore .100" deep down each cylinder! I don't think you'd want to leave it that way. I see your logic but have no answers. Do you have the equipment to sonic...
