    59A Flathead Front Pulley

Hey fellas, I have a '39 Merc flathead with one of those spaced out two belt pulleys on the front of the crank. I can't for the life of me manage to get this thing off. Can anyone give me some advice?

    Bingo, thanks Mike!

    Fel-Pro 7013 R4 Copper Head Gasket Thickness

tbirdtbird, the Felpro 7013 R4 is a great fit on original Winfield crows foot head. It's the only one I have found so far that fits the contour of the valve area without protruding into the chamber. The only thing that worries me is the thin gasket area between cylinders 1 & 2 and 3 & 4.

    Fel-Pro 7013 R4 Copper Head Gasket Thickness

Can someone tell me with any certainty what the thickness is of a Fel-Pro 7013 R4 copper head gasket crushed (installed). I need to work out how much to fly-cut my original 6:1 Winfield head. The pistons currently sit above the deck 0.055’, so if the head gasket crushed is 0.040’, I need to...

    Mallory YA Distributor

Hey guys, wanted to bring up this old post regarding the mechanical advance assembly of an old Mallory YA 11A distributor for Model A/B Ford. I have one just like this, my motor runs great to around 2,300rpm and then nose dives at that point. It's like it's hit a rev limiter and won't rev past...

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Thought I should put up a final post on this issue. My little banger is now running like a Swiss watch. I had previous tried another distributor with no success at all, I had an old model B dizzy in the shed that caused the mill to run like a dog. Anyway, just recently I was able to borrow a...

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Thanks Synchro909, I should have also stated that I've had the valve cover off and visually checked the springs to see if one was broken. All the springs are installed correctly with no obvious mechanical issues. Chris.

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Thanks for your post hardtimes. It's not that I chose to ignore Jim Brierley's comments, it's just that I wanted to rule out other possibilities before having to tear into the motor to replace valve springs. Most of you guys know far more than me, especially someone as experienced as Mr...

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Just an update for those that may be interested. No luck as yet with the issue. I've tried a new coil, and have also adjusted valve lash and pulled the timing cover off to verify that the cam and crank gear line up. It seems that Jim Brierley's suggestion that I have a valve spring issue may...

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

No good on the ignition wiring. Took her out for a spin and she's exactly the same, hit 2200rpm and it craps out. Some people have suggested weak valve springs causing a valve float issue. I've recently had this little mill rebuilt with modern stainless valves, one piece guides, retainers...

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Thanks to everyone that provided some great feedback on my problem. It looks as though I may have found the issue, and it seems I have bad electrical connections from the fuse-box to the ignition switch and back out to the ballast resistor / coil. The ignition switch seems to be intermittently...

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Fellas, that could be it... The motor is now running new stainless modern type valves, locks, and retainers, and new valve springs, but who knows maybe something has gone bad. I'll check tonight and let you guys know.

    Model B Motor won't Rev past 2200RPM

Fellas I need some good advice. I have a model B motor with a 6:1 original Winfield head, Winfield touring cam, Hallock header, flat cap Mallory distributor, a Riley 2x2 intake, and 2 Stromberg 97's. The Stromberg 97's both have standard 45 jets and 71 power valves (65's are standard). The...
