Is your pitman arm tight on the steering shaft? Steering wheel loose on shaft or excess play in the gears at the top, sounds as if you have covered the other trouble spots. On wire wheels lead wire wrapped on the spoke works for balance, lol. Scotty

the parts in the picture are the guts to a lincoln dual coil dist for a flathead v8. they were popular in the 50s. Scotty

with a test lite on the side of the coil to the pop out switch, crank the engine the lite should blink. if steady and you have power at the points open, close points and the lite should go off post results. scotty

Tom, if it was grounding at the coil no current would be going to the points.[for your information] scotty

sounds as if you have an internal short in the coil decreasing the resistance thus allowing more amps to flow thru to the points. scotty

ww2 jeeps had a pvc system. i run one on my A using a 2000 pinto oil filler cap and pcv,drilled the valve side plate to drop a hose down for a road draft tube. had to richen the carb some. no more rusty dist or drive. Scotty

if the matching gear is in constant mesh, ie shift low to rev, and the gear does not move it is 2nd gear. been a long time since i worked on one. complete early boxes should be pretty reasonable. lol scotty

the set that opens the circuit, 2nd one to open, is the one to use. did a lot of crab style back in the 50s. scotty

steve, I run 215 70 r 16 0n 35 rims with no tubes with no leaks, f1 steering gear, pitman arm shortened 1 inch moving drives great. Scotty

you say the fuel bowl is full. this does not mean there is fuel available to the carb. when it quits pull the line at the carb and check the flow. the inlet and outlet are in the same plane so the bowl remains full. lol Scotty
