Had a similar problem with our 46 sedan many years ago, eventually found the terminals on the back of the ignition switch were getting very hot, indicating poor connections. Cleaned them and not problems since.

Following the comments of cast iron crab housings in this thread, I have one with a lug on either side, perhaps someone can identify it and the model it was used on, maybe industrial??? here are some images; [/ATTACH][/ATTACH]
