    '54 front end alignment

Just had my 54 done at a local shop who is an old car guy. He had no trouble and said he knows how to set them up for radial tires. Needed a few shims but no parts.

Thanks for saving the old Fordbarn Ryan!

    Vapor Lock

A back up electric fuel pump located on the frame rail near the tank that can be switched on and off when needed. The 6V Carter can allow the mechanical pump to draw fuel through it even when off. It must just be insulated from the frame to run on positive ground.

Fuel up spitting fuel on the top Yblock

IIRC there is a weep hole to allow fuel to exit the pump housing if the diaphragm is bad, so its less likely to pump into the crankcase.

6v temp sending unit in 57 heads

Haha, I'm not brave enough to do that. Of course, I should have done it while the motor was out and disassembled, if I'd been paying attention.

6v temp sending unit in 57 heads

Hi all, I have another dumb question. My 292 has 57 G heads, but is in a stock 6v 54 Customline. The 12v sending unit standard in 57 is of course a different thread size and function than the older 6v sending unit. The gauge starts pegged at H but moves backwards to C as the engine heats up. No...

    steady rest

The only problem I noticed in my 1954 Customline when I swapped the 292 in was I couldn't use the thicker harmonic balancer. My machinist balanced it anyway and I just used it with the 239 pulley and timing cover to look original.

    Fordamatic Block Plate

Thanks, I live on gravel roads so I'll make a cover. Funny story, I bought the car from the automatic transmission instructor at Denver Auto and Diesel College. So I assumed it was good, Its the only MX I have that doesn't leak. Not a drop. Wife's 65 TBird needs a drip pan, both my 69 Fords...

    Fordamatic Block Plate

Yeah, just that lower cover plate. I can probably fab one, I was just hoping I wasn't damaging the torque converter or input shaft thrust bearing or anything. I swapped a 57 292 for the original 239 and everything bolted right up.

    Fordamatic Block Plate

Did the 54 air cooled Fordamatic have a block plate between the bell housing and engine block? It was ten years between teardown and reassembly. I've searched my parts bins and can't find the lower access plate for the front of the torque converter. I have the small lower access plate with two...

    239 pistons in a 221

That's what my machinist said to do. The tin sleeves were already removed from mine and he said they usually just bored them to 239 after that.

    Y Block Fuel Pump

Then and now has a good selection. My 54 Y-block has the sediment bowl on top and the dual diaphragm for wipers. https://www.then-now-auto.com/product-category/fuel-pump-kits/ford-fuel-pump-kits/

Lets talk about Y-Block vapor lock, shall we?

"Also be wary of CHI-CON SLOPPY-COPY PARTS." Yes! After reading all the mechanical fuel pump threads, I did rebuild mine with the kit from Then and Now, I have a spare 54 Y-block pump and perhaps will make a picture thread detailing the disassembly and reassembly. Its not difficult, but a few...

Lets talk about Y-Block vapor lock, shall we?

I've been working on this for a few months. Flatheads were notorious for overheating apparently. I assumed it was the block soaking up heat from the exhaust passages running through the water jackets, I installed an electric inline pump near the tank that I switch on to prime the mechanical pump...
