    Ring and Pinion

Hi Lawrie, I spent a lot of time trying to find a new 3.78 10 spline for my 34 pickup, but no luck Im afraid. This was 10 years ago when parts on ebay and elsewhere were more plentiful. I ended up changing the drive shaft spline to a 6 so that I could use the later 3.78 ring and pinion. This...

So, my '36 sedan delivery: restore or leave the patina POLL

Hi Kube, I dont post very often, but your dilemma called to me. I am the proud owner of an “unrestored “ 1948 Mercury Convertible. When I bought it , I heart ached for some time over it. Eventually I restored it mechanically, plus the upholstery which had been eaten by rodents over 40 years. I...

    33 out to Boulia

Hi Lawrie, Im following along like all your avid fans around the world. I have a question. You mentioned that you had to use your electric blanket at night as its cold out there. How are you powering that? I know you have house batteries on your caraven, charged from the van wheels rotating, but...

1939 Ford 3 speed top loader help

Another thing I recently came across that may help. I replaced the rear main bearing and discovered that it was wider (thicker) than the previous bearing by about 30 thou. this caused the system to lock up when I put the universal joint on and tightened it up. just a thought. Dave

Re: Noisy sepeedometer - 1951 Ford Hi Tubman, I have also experienced these symptoms recently in my 48 Mercury. I did the research and it sounded straight forward. I decided to remove the speedo. IE. remove front seat, to make room for my body, remove heater to make room for my head! Getting...

Fan Hub Sealed Bearing Model 46-48 ?

Hi folks, Despite my search on this forum I have been unable to find anything about this model fan assembly. I think its 46-48 . I need to replace the bearing, so my questions are; How does it come apart? It seems to have a square lock pin through the case (arrow) and a press fit. Does anyone...

    1948 Ford Fan Hub Oil

Well thank you guys for the information, I did wonder what the reason behind that upstand on the filler hole was. Now I know. I will use the 85 gear oil as suggested. As usual, respondents on this site are very helpful Dave

    1948 Ford Fan Hub Oil

Thanks, Im intrigued to know how the heck oil stays in there. There are a couple of deep grooves on the shaft which I assume prevents the oil coming out of the hub by interrupting it I guess. There is no seal between shaft and hub. Ol Henry's team certainly thought through all the engineering...

    1948 Ford Fan Hub Oil

Hi , Just wondering what oil /lubricant is recommended for the fan hub? Im thinking about packing it with corn head grease as I assemble it, but refilling through that tiny hole may cause headaches down the track. Your opinions appreciated as always thanks Dave By the way I tried a search but...
