Only polarity specific items are effected by switching between positive and negative ground. Non-LED bulbs are polarity specific, as are radios and ammeters. Your '37 radio won't work on a negative ground, and as you observed, the ammeter works backwards (it denotes direction of current flow).

I believe you will have to switch the terminals on the coil.

Does anyone know the thread size and TPI for a Stromberg 97 power valve? Mine was stuck, and got destroyed in the efforts to remove it.
