I bought a group 1 battery from O'Reilly Auto Parts a few years ago and have been perfectly happy with it. I just started up my Model A a few weeks ago after sitting dormant since early December and had no problems whatsoever.
Although the Optima is superior technology, it's way more...
Thanks for your response, fordfixer. I didn't think of that. I can see where that would be a problem with left-hand threads on the pulley and right-hand threads on the ratchet nut. Maybe that's why Snyder's and Bratton's don't sell them.
Does anyone who likes the threaded type want to voice...
I've read several posts on the pros and cons of two piece crankshaft pulleys so I'm aware of the potential problems related to the notched type that Snyder's and Bratton's sells. My question specifically relates to the type that Mac's and Mike's sells that has a left-hand threaded shaft that the...
I recently bought a new A&L horn to replace my old worn out Stewart Warner. Now, I'm no expert on ahooga horns, but to my ears the A&L has a beautiful sound. It appears to have top-notch construction and I'm very pleased with it.
Re: "Ford Model A Standard Hardware", "Parts Price List", and "Body Parts List" books
I'll check out the publication reference. I've been to your website a few times, Steve and I'm amazed at the wealth of information there. Thanks for sharing all of your hard work.
It would be nice to have...
"Ford Model A Standard Hardware", "Parts Price List", and "Body Parts List" books
I'm slowly trying to build up my reference library of Model A books and I'm curious about the books sold by the usual vendors called "Ford Model A Standard Hardware", "Parts Price List", and "Body Parts List"...
I agree that a tool like this is a waste of money for some folks. But I didn't start this thread for the benefit of experienced mechanics. I asked about this tool for the benefit of those, like myself, who are less knowledgeable or less mechanically inclined.
I'm trying to learn all I can...
One of the things I got along with my Model A was a fairly sizeable collection of back issues of The Restorer magazine.
The Mar-Apr 1977 issue has a photo on the front cover of Henry's '29 Special Coupe along with an interesting article titled "Henry's favorite ... the 49-A".
Wow, I didn't quite expect this many replies. So based on all the positive responses by those who've actually used the tool, I'm concluding that it does a pretty good job, quickly and easily. Those who demand "exact" base timing should probably stick with Henry's or Marco's procedures. Fair...
I'm just curious about that Nu-Rex timing wrench that the vendors sell.
Supposedly you use the timing pin to find TDC, loosen the cam screw, rotate the tool a few times, stop when it touches the #4 dstributer post, tighten the screw and you're done.
Have any of you actually used one of...
Hey TinCup,
Glad you enjoyed the picnic. As a member of the Tulsa club, I was there too. Our joint activities with the Sooner club, such as the picnic and fall tour, are always a guaranteed great time.
I enjoyed browsing through your pics. I have one small correction for you, though. The pic...
Cape Codder, thanks for taking the time to measure your distributer bodies. However, I'm not sure what it is that you measured. My upper body has a machined area where it mates to the base. When I measure the inside diameter of the body in the machined area I get 2.89" or about 73mm. How does...
Thanks for your replies, guys. I'm hoping it's just the body that's out of tolerance. Once I can verify that's the case then I'll probably replace it, assuming I can find one that's snug. The tape seems to be working for now, though.
I was working on my distributer a few days ago and I noticed that there was some electrical tape wrapped around the inside perimeter of the upper body where it mates with the base. I removed the tape and quickly found out why it was there. The upper body didn't fit snug on the base and I could...
