Just ran it with no stats,took some time to bring it up to 175 temp sitting in the shop and if I took it up to 1000rpm you could see the fan pull the temp down so I know I have good air flow through the rad, and rad is doing its job. So I will try 160 stats next, good water flow with the stats...

going to pull the states out today and see what it does, this is a 50 coupe rebuilt motor stock heads, 4 core rad, stock 4 blade fan. Was a stock rad a 2 or a 3 core. I was wondering if maybe the core is to thick and it wont let enough air to pass through it when under load to cool properly. Marlon

Update After locating t.d.c. and setting the timing, it is working just the way you guys said it should work, so that's not the problem. So back to the cooling system. had the rad cleaned new drake water pumps new 180 states. I did notice that after the states open up there does not seam to be...

Sorry about the lack of details This motor has an HEI Dist that was recurved to work in the flathead and the carb is a holley 94 had the upper vacuum port hole in the ventury pluged so that the vacuum advance was only picking up from the to port holes on either side of the throttle plates...

There is a V grove in the out rim of the crank belt pulley and the pointer on the front cover these are the only marks, I was told that when lined up i am set up at 2 BTD ? or are these marks TD Marlon

the only timming marks that I have is a slot cut into the crank pulley and the pointer on the cam gear case cover. Question are those marks t.d.c. and what is base timing set at. I am having a heating problem under driving conditions and I was told that it might be my timing. Thanks Marlon
