Hope indeed!!! Should be a summer school class in tuning tri power strombergs!
Another glimmer of hope… a dad and his two teenage sons at a meet recently with a Medel A that their grandfather had restored… the two boys were both proud and knowledgeable about the car and certainly not there...
Wow… feels like I just discovered the lost scrolls!!!
Huge appreciation and thanks to those who go before and amass the knowledge, then invest even more of their time and effort ensuring it’s passed to those who come after!
I was at Supercar Sunday at Woodland Hills in LA just last weekend, and...
It’s a fiddly job but not major… there’s a bit of an art to reinstalling the springs that will have you tear your hair out if you don’t get it right! Sounds like a good opportunity to check condition of the brake linings and cylinders anyhow.
If you’re not doing it yourself, I’d be going...
Yes. Low or no compression would indicate a valve or other compression related issue.
Worth doing before pulling the intake… a cheap compression tester is less than a new intake gasket and you can use it more than once… knowing the compression readings on each cylinder is useful to know...
You could pull the intake, but just a few questions… How much have you driven it since you owned it? How has it been running prior to this? How long before you bought it did he claim that he did the valves? Did it just die instantly, or was it acting up and gradually failed?
What exactly did...
Thanks. I’m going to block off the rear breather.
Still interested in any ideas why they would have blocked both breathers when they did an otherwise impressive build.
I wish I was 20 years younger as well, but 20 years ago I had more projects than time… same today… so I guess I need to live 20 years longer!!! Problem is, I don’t have the time or the money for the projects I have now, so I just gotta face the fact that someone else will one day be having my...
I have exactly the same issue with my ‘50… I knew the horn wasn’t working, but then discovered that it actually does when I pulled the wheel off to do a wheel alignment… I am assuming the steering wheel is not actually connecting the contact of the center button to ground, but I didn’t have time...
Thanks! Yeah, I love the coupe… I really struggled sending it back, so I couldn’t resist when they decided to sell it!
I could never quite fall in love with the sedan, particularly without the original flathead… but it slowly began growing on me when I started thinking about it with a chopped...
It’s an 8BA intake and it was originally a 59Ab gasket… I replaced it with the correct gasket… yes, the road breather tube is there and there is a breather at the front, it’s tucked in under the alternator.
I put the rear breather on at the beginning of the process before I figured out the...
I did some work on a 1950 Custom Coupe with an 8BA Flathead a few years ago for a friend… it had been sitting for about ten years…
One of the first things I discovered when I drained and tried to refill the oil, was that someone had installed a 59Ab gasket on the Offy intake. The oil...
Looking for the internal breather tube inside the front of the tappet bay that connects from the crankcase breather hole, up to the intake (that then vents out to the road breather outlet).
If anyone has a spare, please let me know.
Many thanks,
Tim.
