1953 Ford

A red '53 convertible was my first new car. Radio, heater and whitewalls were the only extras as I recall. I remember it cost around $2100. I only owned it for about a year as I got into drag racing, got rid of it and got a hot rodded '34 roadster which I kept until I got out of the army in '59. My father drove the '34 to work once a week for the 2 years I was gone. The only picture I have of the '53 is poor so I won't bother to post it. I have posted a picture of the '34 on another thread.

I think 53's are a very good car Ive owned two ranch wagons the last one purchased for $150. thirty years ago, it had a fordomatic and would really hit passing gear with the rear tires squelling...i always liked the 50th anniverary steering wheel!

Heres one for sale in my neck of the woods (Buford GA)

This '53 Sedan Delivery has proven itself as an excellent car to tour in. 215" six with speed goodies, 3 speed no OD. It likes the road. Lots of space to put stuff that you might find along the way.

Chuck:
I like the rear stance of the Sedan Delivery.
What was done to acomplish this.
My mainline sits low in the rear, I see most of that yr. sit that way.
I don't realy like it. ( personal opinion )
I have thought about rearching the rear springs and have asked if it is 1 inch of lift for each 1 inch of spring arch gained.

Bill, The shackles at rear are flipped so the spring is below the hanger. That will give the rear end a lift of about an inch and a half.

Do Merc's count?? Someone once told me they were Fords with lock-washers.
Waited 20 years for this one to come along.

Hi all '53 ers; I finally got my true coupe and it's a KEEPER. 52/3's were great high speed cars , and the the Police suspension really helps. The automatics are sometimes trouble, cause the are few mechanics that understand them. Save those core trannys for us that use them. Later Newc Oregon

A 53 Victoria has always been on my list of best looking Fords. I would like to own one, but with 6 already I don't have any more room.

Were the leftover parts intentional... or did you forget something...??? Just kidding, what kind of “extra” parts do you have, and do you want to sell/trade any?

In the 70's I owned a 1953 Ford Victoria that was customized by the Clarkaiser custom shop in the Detroit area back in 1955. It was in lots of the old magazines and was known as 'Queen of the Vics". Lots of body mods but a stone stock flathead drive train. There have been some recent threads about the car on our sister site. Car still exsists and is now in New Jersey.

I have a 53 Victoria been to a lot of National meets from Calif to Detroit. It is a great road car. My only complaint is hard steering when parking.

Theer is a junk yard here in VT that has a dozen of them, Last I heard they were being scrapped. BUT, they were in real bad shape.

I love them too. We had a 53 mainline when I was a kid. I'd like to find a station wagon. Wonder with all the popularity why there is no judging guideline for them?

Ya'll don't forget to order a copy of the new 52-53 book through the Early V/8 Ford Club.
Put together by Ray Beebe and Graig Gorris. I received mine a few days ago. Charles
