First car??

My first car is still my best car! A 1930 Standard Roadster. Learned to drive a car at 14 on just the chassis with a chair wired up, while all the body was off in the start of a rebuild. Then finished in '66 at 16 years old and it was my driver all through high school and college. Still sits in my garage while the other cars sit outside!

The first car I drove, and learned to drive in, was a 1937 Dodge. At the time, 1961, I thought it was a really ugly car, and I was ashamed to be seen in it. I've changed my attitude about that, but the car is long gone.

My first car, which I bought in 1961, was a 1929 Tudor. My high school girlfriend was embarrassed to be seen in it and urged me to sell it. Well, 52 years later, the girlfriend is long gone but I still have the Tudor.

My first car in 1960 was a 1938 Packard 110 coupe, cost $35 gone would love to have it back, would even pay a little more now!

When I graduated high school, I drove my father's 30 town sedan to work until I saved enough money to buy my first car, a 1940 Ford deluxe tudor. I sold it in the 70's to pay for the hospital bill for a son being born, as I had no insurance. I have had about 250 cars, trucks and motorcycles since then. Photos on my web site.

My first car was a !957 Ford Sunliner convertable with 28,000mi. I bought it in 1967 for $175. It had a 292 thunderbird engine which I later replaced with a 390cid. This started my need for speed and my love affair with Fords. My next car was a 67 Fairlane GTA 390. Then a 62 Olds Starfire from my Grandfather. Sure would love to have them now!

My first car was a 1930 Model "A" that I got from my uncle for helping him make hay for his dairy cows. I was 13 years old then. I am 70 now and have had four Model "A"s. My current one is a 1930 Std Coupe.

52 years later, the girlfriend is long gone but I still have the Tudor.

I love it. You made the right choice. One of my customers brought his new girlfriend to see his house, and his 29 pickup was apart and the parts were in the rec room. She said "that will have to go". He said "you are the one going". He still has the pickup, she is gone.

The car I learned to drive was my Dad's 29 Model A Special Coupe. The Model A is now my son's, some things have changed, but the interior is still the same. My first car was a 36 Ford 5-Window coupe, which I still own, and looks much like it did in 1963 when I installed a 59A Engine, painted it Viking Blue (62 Ford Color) with white & blue running board covers. I thought it was cool at the time.

My first car was my 1929 Ford cabriolet. I got it in 1959 and it was originally purchased by my father in 1929. It is my current project and has not been driven since 1964. It will be back on the road this year or next in all probability.

1950 Studebaker Champion that my dad gave me for a field car when I was 12. It was way too nice to cut up for a field car, but when you're 12 you think it's pretty cool to run a chassis with no body around 40 acres. If I skipped school lunch I had 25 cents for gas money.

First car for the road was a 1949 Plymouth, also a very good car, but I only had it for a couple months until my dad found out and made me sell it. I was 15 and had just gotten my driver's license.

first car was a 1959 Chevrolet Impala Sports Sedan. Cameo Coral with a 283 & powerglide.

my grandparents gave it to me in 1966 when I was going to Ohio State University.

totalled it in late '67- strong drink was involved.

Life comes full circle- my wife Alice loves 59 Chevys so there may be one in our future someday...

My "first" rig was a 1929 ccpu. My cousin gave it to my brother and I back in the mid 1950's. It was all torn apart, no bed, motor out of it, many parts missing. I later bought a 1929 tudor from the same cousin for $50. I then started tearing the tudor apart to try to put together some kind of "rig" made from the old ccpu. Below the second picture is what this "rig" looked like.

The old "rig" sat around at my Dad's place for a number of years after high school and then later on I brought it down to our current place and stored it in our barn for 40 to 50 years. So a couple of years ago I decided I either had to get rid of the "junk" in the barn or do something with it. So first picture below is what it ended up to be.

My first car was a '48 Kaiser that Grandpa had quit driving when he got a '56 Buick. I used to give the neighborhood kids thrill rides up and down the lanes on Grandpa's farm, which had steep enough hills that I could make it fly if I went over at 55. Our farm was across the road (US 20 in NY), so I did not take it over there. Grandpa told me he signed it over to me at the county MV bureau office (we didn't have titles then).

1961 VW with cloth sunroof bought in 1972. Dad and I pulled it home on a rope. After several tubes of Piston Seal ordered from JC Whitney we got it running......sort of. It already had over 200,000 miles when I got it and was totally worn out from top to bottom. I pushed that car more than I drove it in cold weather trying to get the engine to start. I always tried to park facing down hill if possible but that was no guarantee I could get it to start. That VW was good for building muscle and character. Guess I will go sit in the cornor with the Geo guys.

Ford. A 1948 Coupe. My Grandfather sold it new and when it came back in I got it. Being 14 I had to screw with it. We had a '57 Cadillac out back so I had to take the drive train and put in the little Ford. I had to have that engine with those 2 WCFBs. Then a '58 Chrysler came in a year later and then that engine with those huge valve covers and twin AFBs had to go in the car. Within a few months I swiped a blower from a 6-71 and stuck it on it. It was a fun car, wish I still had it.
We worked on a couple Model As, but, I didn't know that much about them and I didn't get one until '76.
