:) I have been using a 6 volt optima battery in my Model A for the past two years the battery is not charging right does not like to take a charge. I am planning on replacing with a 6 volt lead acid battery not sure what size of a battery, looking for information an a good battery maybe from Napa or somewhere else what Is a Part # and size of a good battery to use.
thanks.

Do you have the stock battery carrier & hold down ? Make sure the new battery fits. I went to Tractor Supply and carefully checked the manufacture date to get the freshest one.

The over 12 year old battery in my 28 Phaeton was made by EPM, East Penn Manufacturing, and has been a great battery. I bought it for a couple buck from a recycling yard more than 12 years ago. For some reason it doesn't have a date code, so I don't know the exact age. EPM make batteries for several people, so you may find different labels, even though they came from the same factory.

Google EPM and you may find the different labels.

I have the TSC battery in all my Model A's and they work great. If your Optima is only 2 years old it should still be under warranty! Wayne

Group 1. Napa, CarQuest, Advanced Auto, Tractor Supply and on and on. Remember positive ground. Approx 80-100$.

Go to a Ag supply store near you and buy a tractor battery. Will last for many years, we can get them around here for about $50.

Are you sure that it is the battery? I have had 6V Optimas in my Model A's for years and they keep working (for me anyway) just fine....and I only rarely use a battery tender and the batteries have spent most of their lives just sitting there in my cars.....

There have been reports here on the barn that the optimas don't last like they did years ago.

As for a lead acid battery,

Ask for a Group 1 battery for 6 volts.

9 1/8 length, 7 1/8 width, 9 3/8 height

6v group 1 batteries are found by the following numbers;

NAPA - BAT 7244
Exide - 7200
Tractor supply - Com 1 HP (part number 0470506) I think.
Autozone - 1-6 volt
Ultrapower #901MF from Deka
interstate part # 1-VHD

What is the equivelant 12volt battery? (that still fits the original battery box)

I just need a new battery and my rig is in off-site storage right now. Tomorrow would be fine. Thanks Mitch.

I haven't had much luck with batteries. This is the 3rd battery in 7 years (all Sears DieHard). Will get a different brand this time, AND battery tender.

You do know that if your 6v generator won't keep the charge up on the Optima 6v battery, even if you crank it up, it probably won't keep up the charge on a 12v battery.

You might want to do a little checking to be sure the generator is working properly before you go buying a new battery. I have been running Optima batteries since I found out about them somewhere back in the '70s or '80s and have only replaced them due to old age.

The result may be that you need a new battery, but it does pay to troubleshoot the cause for the battery dying first.

I am using a Gp 26 12v. works well.
There is also a Gp 26R (terminals reversed) if that works better for the length of your cables. Measure up and then head to the battery store and have a look-see
